BOULDER, Colo. (Jan. 23, 2008) – Wenger® – the maker of the Genuine Swiss Army Knife™ – is rolling out a full line of multifunctional, premium-quality tents for the specialty outdoor channel. The tent selection covers a wide range of outdoor adventuring, from high-altitude, technical backpacking to car camping. The line includes two lightweight hiking tents and a three-season dome tent.

“Each tent is designed to deliver high-end performance based on a specific type of outdoor activity,” said Geoff O'Keeffe, president of Slumberjack, an official licensee of Wenger North America and the designer, manufacturer and marketer of its outdoor gear. “However, there is a common thread across the line. All of the tents are inspired by the legendary Swiss Army Knife. As a result, our retailers and consumers can expect a product that is multifunctional and made from the finest materials and craftsmanship in the world.”

Alpina II Hiker Tent (MSRP: $199)
The new Wenger line is highlighted by an ultra-lightweight backpacking tent designed for the minimalist who wants small, fast and easy, yet craves a roomy tent that can withstand the elements. The Alpina II utilizes a three-pole design that maximizes space within the tent, while reducing unwanted weight and bulk. In addition, the design makes assembly fast and easy, particularly in challenging environments or inclement weather.

The tent is anchored by DAC® 8.5 mm aluminum poles that are extremely lightweight, yet provide maximum stability. The poles are easy to assemble, reducing set up time. The body of the tent is constructed from a lightweight but durable nylon ripstop material and the fly comes with a 4,000 mm coating to protect against the elements. In addition, windows are constructed from No-See-Um™ mesh for maximum airflow and bug protection.

The Alpina II accommodates up to two people plus gear. It offers more than 30 square feet of floor space and measures 82” x 54” x 42”. The tent weighs 6 pounds.

Other key features of the Alpina II include a fully-sealed, tub-style floor that keeps seams off the ground for maximum moisture prevention. The tent also comes with a full-coverage rain fly that protects against the elements.

Another unique component is a multifunctional carry duffle that easily attaches to a backpack and doubles as an organizer when the tent is in use. The organizer hangs from the top of the tent and provides a variety of storage compartments for keys, flashlight, GPS and other important gear.

“A big challenge with any type of bivy or backpacking tent is space,” O'Keeffe said. “We've developed a carry duffle that serves as an organizer to get gear off the floor of the tent, freeing up precious space. When not in use, the tent easily stores in the duffle which can attach to a backpack.”

In addition to the Alpina II, Wenger is offering the Alpina III, a three-person tent that provides 45 square feet of floor space and measures 90” x 72” x 54”. It retails for $249.

Marbach Three-Season Outfitter Tent (MSRP: $369)
For camping in the spring, summer and fall, Wenger offers the Marbach three-person tent. It is designed for the campground, but lightweight enough for backpacking. Its freestanding design features a dual-zipper front vestibule that is ideal for gear storage. It also comes with a full-coverage rain fly for inclement weather.

The Marbach is designed with a fully-sealed, bath-tub style floor, which keeps rain and other moisture out of the tent. The body of the tent is constructed from a lightweight but durable nylon ripstop material. To protect against the elements, the fly comes with a heavy 4,000 mm coating. In addition, windows are constructed from No-See-Um mesh, which provides superior visibility and airflow while keeping pesky bugs out.

To help keep things organized, the Marbach comes with a variety of gear pockets, including a loft to get backpacks, food and other gear off the ground. It also comes with the multifunctional carry duffle that affixes to a backpack and doubles as an extra storage compartment when the tent is in use. The Marbach measures 86” x 78” x 56” and offers 42 square feet of floor space. It weighs 10 pounds, 6 ounces and retails for $369.
