Easley, S.C. - Team Wave Sport proudly announces its 2011 roster, including 12 returning athletes from the 2010 crew and two athletes new to the team. Led by reigning U.S. Men’s National Freestyle champion and team manager, Bryan Kirk, and filled with paddlers from the deep end of the talent pool, Team Wave Sport is a hard-charging group of whitewater purists.
Though not lacking for expedition credits or first descents, the undercurrent of this team is competition. 2011 marks a World Freestyle Kayaking Championship year and Team Wave Sport is ready. Call it fate or just plain good luck. In 2011, preparation and talent collide with the introduction of the Wave Sport Project X. Wave Sport athletes have been paddling the ultimate freestyle machine for months in preparation for the competitive season.
“Spanning an age range of over a decade and hailing from all over North America, the unifying factor for these athletes is whitewater,” said Cheri McKenzie, Chief Marketing Officer of Confluence Watersports, parent company to Wave Sport. “It’s our honor to have them officially representing Wave Sport because their spirit, their passion and their dedication is contagious. These are the athletes who are out there pushing the boundaries of where whitewater boating is going, and inspiring those new to the sport along the way.”
“Some of our athletes follow their bliss into deep unexplored canyons, others find themselves impressing huge crowds while racking up winning scores or beating record times,” said team manager, Bryan Kirk, on team inspiration.
Kirk continues, “Team Wave Sport lives for their passion for whitewater. What brings us all together is the deep bond we form while scouting drops together, having one another's back in the wilderness, and challenging ourselves to be the best we possibly can both on and off the river.”
Here are the 2011 Team Wave Sport athletes: Bryan Kirk(Fayatteville, W.Va.), Elaine Campbell (Readsboro, Vt.), Taylor Cavin (Lotus, Calif.), Taylor Cote (Suwanee, Ga.), Tyler Curtis (Beachburg, Ontario, Can.), Tanya Faux (Alexandra, Australia), Tyler Fox (Ottawa, Ontario, Can.), Trip Jennings (Portland, Ore.), Haley Mills (Salida, Colo.), Kim Russell (White Salmon, Wash.), Devyn Scott (Pakenham, Ontario, Can.), Mikkel St. Jean-Duncan (Calgary, Alberta, Can.), Kelsey Thompson (Truro, Nova Scotia, Can.) and Chris Wing (Ellicott City, Md.).
Haley Mills and Devyn Scott are new to the team this season. Mills was the 2010 National Freestyle Champion and is a member of the U.S. Freestyle Team. Scott is a multi-continent play-boater addicted to the freedom of being on the water.
In addition, for 2011 key team members will be participating in a whitewater event tour at key product retailers. These laid-back events will be held at popular whitewater locations throughout the season to build a personal link between consumers and retailer personnel and the brand. Attendees will find great tips and information from our pro athletes to get into the sport or progress to the next level. The team tour schedule and locations will be posted on the Wave Sport website and Facebook pages.
About Wave Sport:
Wave Sport was founded in 1986 with a dedication to all things whitewater, and that philosophy holds true today. For Wave Sport paddling is a journey, whether over the course of a day, a year or a lifetime. Some journeys are destined for the chilled-out fun of surfing a local, glassy wave, while the journey for others may culminate in a first descent of some remote and enormous drop. For those who believe that paddling isn’t just an activity, but a way of life, Wave Sport welcomes you to the ride. Join the Wave Sport Community at www.wavesport.com.
