On October 6, 2008, VAUDE inaugurated a VAUDE store in Nepal, the land of the highest mountains in the world. The minister of economic affairs, Asta Laxmi Shakya, was personally present to cut the ribbon at the opening.
Nepal is considered a mecca for mountaineers, trekking tourists and adventurers. It's home to the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, and large portions of the Himalayan Mountain Range stretch out over the northern and eastern regions of the country. Every year innumerable mountain sportsmen and women pilger to this country where eight of the world's 14 eight-thousanders are located. As a leading mountain sports supplier one can't be missing here, and with the opening of the store in Kathmandu, VAUDE further advances its international presence. Furthermore, the company clearly benefits from access to such a promising market.

Numerous representatives from politics, business and press were present at the inauguration festivities. Even the president of the country, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, made a short stop with his escort to catch a glimpse of the VAUDE store. The store offers a wide range of products on approximately 230 square meters: high performance clothing, shoes, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, EDELRID climbing hardware and expedition gear for extreme conditions can be found here.
Yet a long road had to taken before the opening was even possible: already in April 2007, VAUDE's CEO, Albrecht von Dewitz, and China consultant, Knut Jäger, went on an exploratory trip through Tibet and Nepal.

They examined various mountain sports centers closely and determined that Nepal in particular had favorable conditions to offer. A cooperation with the Himalayan Techno Gear Trading made it possible to open the first VAUDE store in Kathmandu. The store is already being well received and a further shop in Pokhara is in planning. The company is also interested in establishing itself by setting up a store in Tibetan Lhasa.
