Vasque Athletes Bryan Dayton and Krissy Moehl head to Chattanooga, Tennessee to compete in the ninth annual Rock/Creek StumpJump, held on October 3rd. Dayton is back to defend his 2005 first-place title and 50K course record of 4:01:17. Moehl is just returning to the states after winning the grueling Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc in France, and is looking forward to finding her stride on the hard-packed, fast-rolling dirt, while tackling 5000-plus feet of elevation gain.
“I'm excited to be returning to my hometown state of Tennessee for the Rock/Creek StumpJump 50k,†says Dayton. “The competition is deep and the course is as tough as ever, but this is a great race for me. With Vasque, family and friends there to cheer, it will be game on to the finish line.â€
Dayton will have fierce competition from several other sponsored athletes, including Dean Karnazes, and a soon to be sold-out field of racers.
StumpJump is a part of the Vasque PROJECT and was selected due to the stellar race experience it offers athletes and Rock/Creek's dedication to giving back to the environment and the greater Chattanooga community. All proceeds from the race benefit the Cumberland Trail Conference, a non-profit organization dedicated to the completion and maintenance of the 300-plus mile Cumberland Trail which runs along the Cumberland Plateau from Chattanooga to Cumberland Gap. In 2008 the Rock/Creek StumpJump raised $9000 for trail work.
“This amazing event is one of the largest and hardest 50K trail races in the country,†says Chris Speak, Vasque brand manager. “We are thrilled about the partnership with Rock/Creek retailers and having the StumpJump as part of the Vasque Project-it truly represents the goals of the Vasque Project.â€
Moehl will greet fellow-runners at registration and have a question and answer session at the vendor fair on Friday, October 2. Stop by for some last minute racing tips.
