September 14, 2012, Charlottesville, VA—The 2012 Ultra Race of Champions (UROC) presented by Competitor magazine is just two weeks out and the elite roster of competitors reads like a "who's who" of the ultra running community--highly fitting for the second annual 100K championship race. Two ultra running icons, Geoff Roes and Ellie Greenwood take time out of their days in Alaska and British Columbia to invite runners to the 2012 UROC via a short, "must-see" preview video hosted on the UROC home page: ultraroc. com. As the under 2-minute, fast-moving video proclaims, the world’s best ultra runners will gather at Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia on Saturday, September 29th, 2012, to compete on a mixed course of road and trail over a total distance of 100 kilometers for a share of the $20,000 prize purse. Elite runner Iazaldir Feitoza Santana is traveling from South America to compete and comments, "I live in Brazil and I was delighted by the format of UROC. I am sure this race will become a world reference."

The 100K World Champion Shinji Nakadai from Japan shares his fellow competitor's regard. "My stay in the USA is limited," says Nakadai "so I 'm very excited to have this chance to run with top runners from around the world."

The vision of race directors J. Russell Gill and Dr. Francesca Conte of having the best long distance runners from around the world compete in a single, annual, championship event will be further realized at this year's race. And once again, Bad to the Bone Endurance Sports will activate their media arm, Bad to the Bone Media in conjunction with Amoeba Films to provide the spectating world with unprecedented race day coverage of the championship. Their goal is to provide the most comprehensive race day video coverage ever produced for an ultra distance event.

As well as the most timely and informative. In addition to the experienced and professional film crew, Gill will provide authoritative, accurate voice commentary. UROC race video will be posted in chronological segments on the internet same day for spectators to watch online. An advance schedule (see below) directs viewers when to tune into the UROC video broadcast to view the race footage, but the Start and Finish will be streamed live via webcam for on demand, up-to-the-minute viewing. Alyssa Godesky, a competitive runner and member of the Bad to the Bone Media team will post live updates every 20 minutes to both Twitter (#BTTBEndurance) and Facebook, combining the best in live video coverage with social media "reporting."

This type of unparalleled coverage is what race director Conte says has been "missing" from the sport. And what is needed to engage and grow a larger audience. “Watching professional footage from the course on race day will make friends, family, and fans who couldn't attend UROC feel as if they were there--watching the race action unfold and supporting the event."

Beyond the prior training and experience competitors bring to the starting line, athletes will rely on multiple aid stations throughout the day for high performance energy supplements, food, and drink.
