Icebreaker, the New Zealand based manufacturer of pure merino nature clothing, announced today that Troy Ballard, US Market Manager for the brand, has been promoted to President of Icebreaker USA. The promotion was designated by Icebreaker CEO Jeremy Moon one year after bringing Ballard on board to head up the US market.

“We've seen tremendous strides toward success with our retail partners and in growing the brand in the US,” said Moon, founder and CEO of Icebreaker worldwide. “Troy has a great support team in place, and we're looking forward to continued growth and success from the strategy we've implemented globally and are now applying to the US market.”

“The reception to the Icebreaker brand in the states is off to a strong start,” said Ballard. “As we continue to target specialty snow sports and outdoor retailers as partners in building the brand, we expect to see growth on par with what we've seen over the last year. Our customer service team has been commended by our dealer partners and Icebreaker is selling through to an extent that retailers have voted it #2 in top selling base layers. When you look at the relative youth of Icebreaker compared to the more established market players, it really underscores the performance of the product and the brand. Our US team will continue to expand to support the recent growth as well as what we anticipate for the future.”

With just two years in independent US distribution, Icebreaker has seen sales growth of 300% in 2005, and is the only complete pure merino layering system available to the market. In addition to the hot selling Skin 200 and BodyFit 260 base layer tops and leggings, Icebreaker offers Sport 320 and Sport LTD, which combine insulation with lifestyle wear in a collection of fashionable, alpine-inspired sweater weight merino layers that can be worn as a stand alone for everyday wear; EXP, a collection of lightweight, wind resistant outerwear for low-bulk warmth; and Coastal, a first in windproof merino outerwear for outdoor and adventure travel, with a nod to urban style. Superfine summer weight merino presents a collection of colorful performance t-shirts for the warmer months, and a complete line of merino accessories rounds out the collection.

Icebreaker, the global pioneer of merino performance apparel in 1994, is currently distributed to over 1000 stores in 15 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Australasia, and North America. Based in Wellington, New Zealand it uses only pure merino hand-picked from 60 high stations scattered among the country's Southern Alps to create outdoor clothing that combines Nature's work with human technology and design. Icebreaker merino garments are best worn layered - like the fleece protecting merino sheep, Icebreaker clothing provides warm insulation in cold weather and highly breathable cooling properties in warm weather. Icebreaker's exclusive natural merino fiber recipe results in lightweight layers that are itch-free, odor-free, biodegradable, and annually renewable.
