Tony Bose Receives Red Watson Memorial Friendship Award

Renowned custom maker and Case collaborator is named the winner of the Red Watson Memorial Friendship Award by peers. The annual award is considered one of the highest honors bestowed by the Knife Makers Guild.

Bradford, PA (August 1, 2007)– Tony Bose, a renowned custom knife maker who has worked with W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Company in producing several popular Case patterns and limited edition designs, was awarded the Red Watson Memorial Friendship Award at the Knife Makers Guild Show last Friday. The award was presented by Gil Hibben, President of the Knife Makers Guild. The show took place at the Lake Buena Vista Palace Resort in Florida.

Mr. Bose called receiving the award “a true honor.”

Mr. Hibben explained the award is considered one of the most prestigious among Guild members, in part because the winner is chosen by its voting members. It's given annually to the candidate who best exemplifies Red Watson's “integrity,” “spirit,” and willingness to “share knowledge of knife making with peers and be an example to others.”

“Tony is a generous and talented artist,” said Mr. Hibben. “It was my honor to present (the award) to him.”

The Red Watson Memorial Friendship Award was established more than 30 years ago by the Knife Makers Guild's Board of Directors. Mr. Watson is credited with helping many pursue careers in custom knife making by openly sharing his own techniques and trade secrets. He died in 1973.

Mr. Bose adds this industry tribute to the list of awards he's earned for his custom designs, including Best Folding Knife honors at the 1994 East Coast Custom Knife Show and the 1995 and 1998 Blade Shows.

Since 1999, Mr. Bose and W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Company have teamed up to co-produce nine unique factory patterns with custom knife features. The first, a Slimline Trapper, was introduced in 1999. Their latest collaboration, the new swell centered Swing-Guard Lock, was just released to the public. Other Case/Bose creations have been appeared in Case's standard product catalogs, including the Sowbelly (2001) and the Saddlehorn (2004).
