The North Face Opens Retail Store in Boise, Idaho

World’s premier supplier of outdoor products opens 24th US retail store

SAN LEANDRO, California—November 11, 2008—The North Face, the world's premier supplier of authentic, innovative, and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment, and footwear, today announced its 24th retail location. The North Face store is located in Boise, Idaho, at 802 West Idaho Street, and will open Friday, November 21.

Continuing the brand's strategic expansion into key markets, the 8,665 square-foot store is located in a historic, three-story, wood and brick building known as “The Mode” at Eighth and Idaho Streets in the Central Business District of Boise. Constructed in the early 1900's and occupied by a department store for most of the century, The North Face store will occupy two of the levels. The store incorporates The North Face retail design featuring large graphics of the company's inspiring athletes and expeditions, concrete floors, wood, and red accents.

“This location marks our first effort to open a store with a commercial interior certified by the US Green Building Council's LEED program,” said Lindsay Rice, The North Face Vice President, Direct to Consumer. ” We are proud to connect with the area's very active outdoor community and to share our sustainability efforts through innovation, exploration and education.”

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifies that structures have been built using sustainable methods of construction with an emphasis on energy and resource conservation.

“We are working closely with the landlord, Baum Development, in targeting a Gold Level Certification,” said Rice. “In addition, the University of Idaho's Urban Research and Design Center is participating in this project. To honor their time and passion, a “Community Center” niche has been built within the store to feature photographs and information centered around the building's history and current LEED process.”

To commemorate the special opening, the evening before the Grand Opening, November 20, The North Face athlete and famed mountaineer, Pete Athans, will be presenting a slide show on some of his more notable accomplishments, including his seven successful summits of Mount Everest.

In addition, a silent auction will be held to benefit the Idaho Conservation League which preserves Idaho's clean water, wilderness, and quality of life. Representatives from the Idaho Conservation League will be on hand to speak with event attendees, answer questions, and share additional information on local programs in and around the Boise area.
