Denver, CO— February 26, 2013 — First Descents, a Denver-based non-profit providing free outdoor adventures to young adults fighting and surviving cancer, is announcing that the creators of the documentary series and best-selling book, The Buried Life will be participating in First Descents’ 4th Annual Climb-a-thon on March 2, 2013. The Buried Life has created a climbing team to participate in the event at Rockreation in Los Angeles.

In honor of the 70,000 young adults diagnosed with cancer each year, Team First Descents hopes to climb a total of 70,000 vertical feet during the one-day Climb-a-thon. A minimum of $25 will get climbers entrance into participating climbing gyms on March 2nd.

The four members of The Buried Life published the popular book “What Do You Want To Do Before You Die?” The members’ effort to complete a list of 100 things to do before they die was made into a reality television show broadcast on MTV in 2010 and 2011. Creators say their mission is to “go after what you want in life and help others along the way.” The theme is one that hits home with First Descents participants who choose to do exciting things like kayaking, climbing or surfing because of the diagnosis that threatens their lives.

“First Descents is truly a remarkable organization empowering cancer survivors to live life to the fullest,” says a member of The Buried Life. “Their mission inspires us to work harder in helping others live their dreams. We are honored and humbled to be able to support FD and participate in their Climb-a-thon. We hope other will join us, too.”

“The show The Buried Life is about living life to the fullest, taking chances and going after adventure,” says First Descents director of marketing Rebekah Koenigbauer. “And that is exactly what First Descents is all about. First Descents participants choose to live despite their diagnosis, through our climbing, kayaking and surfing programs. We’re thrilled that the team from The Buried Life has made this connection and is supporting our participants.”
