StreetStrider International today announced a significant expansion into Central America, Columbia, and the Caribbean by securing a deal with retail membership powerhouse PriceSmart (NASDAQ: PSMT). PriceSmart has purchased StreetStrider’s Eclipse model to be initially sold in 15 of 30 PriceSmart stores in 13 countries throughout the region.

StreetStrider’s director of business development, Dan Theade, said that the expansion south of the border is a part of the company’s development plan to become a world-wide brand. “PriceSmart is the largest membership-based retailer south of the United States, with over one million members, and we’re really been impressed with their vision for StreetStrider. They see our product as not only a revolutionary fitness tool, but also a significant mode of family and urban transportation due to its stable design and efficiency.”

The StreetStrider, which is unlike any other piece of exercise equipment on the market, offers the combined benefits of jogging, skiing and cycling. The StreetStrider generates a full-body weight-bearing workout, high calorie burn rate, adjustable resistance and low joint impact – all without the physical stresses of other exercises. The StreetStrider can also be used indoors, making it the world’s first 2-in-1 outdoor/indoor elliptical machine.

The Eclipse model (MSRP USD$999) is StreetStrider’s newest, and features a chromoly steel frame. The single-speed Eclipse uses a chainless Hartmann Hub paired with a caliper brake in the rear and disc brakes on the front wheels, and folds down with a quick–release lever for easy storage. The innovative and intuitive lean-to-steer system and reciprocating arm levers not only provide smooth steering, but also an unequaled core exercise.

The StreetStrider was invented and patented by David Kraus, PhD, StreetStrider’s president.

After riding his bicycle to work for more than 20 years and regularly working out on a stationary elliptical cross-trainer, Kraus was inspired to combine the two into an efficient, fun outdoor machine. After years of development, the first StreetStrider models were introduced in 2009. StreetStrider offers multiple models for adults as well as a children’s model, plus branded accessories for indoor use and car transportation.
