Irvine, Calif. – October 11, 2007 – Star Trac, a global leader in the commercial fitness industry, today announced the launch of its “Expect Different” campaign. This campaign for change was created in response to the worldwide health and fitness crisis. As the company's leadership recognized the global situation was spiraling out of control and then reviewed its own strategic direction, it realized there was so much more it should and could do.

The statistics are staggering. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), between 1980 and 2000 obesity rates doubled among adults. Globally, there are currently more than 1.6 billion overweight adults, at least 400 million of them obese, and the numbers are rising. WHO estimates that more than 180 million people worldwide have diabetes. This number is likely to more than double by 2030. In 2005, an estimated 1.1 million people died from diabetes and it is projected that diabetes deaths will increase by more than 50% in the next 10 years without urgent action.

“There is an answer to this epidemic,” said Steve Nero, president and COO of Star Trac. “It starts with an increase in physical activity.
