Spyder Re-signs Halfpipe Champion Roz Groenewoud

Groenewoud's contract extension will continue the relationship with the brand through the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where both men’s and women’s halfpipe skiing will be included as Olympic events for the first time.

BOULDER, Colo. – Spyder Active Sports, Inc., the Colorado-based manufacturer of premium technical ski apparel, has re-signed halfpipe skiing champion, Rosiland “Roz” Groenewoud, for an additional three years. Initially joining the Spyder team in 2008, Groenewoud's contract extension will continue the relationship through the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where both men's and women's halfpipe skiing will be included as Olympic events for the first time.

Hailing from Calgary, the 22 year-old native Canadian is currently the top female halfpipe skier in the world. Groenewoud finished the 2012 season atop the AFP halfpipe standings and scored Winter X Games gold medals in each of the Aspen, Colorado and Tinges, France games.

According to Spyder's VP of Global Sales and Marketing, Russ Rowan, Spyder is “stoked” about its renewed relationship with Groenewoud and is dedicated to supporting her in her lofty athletic goals leading up to, and including, the 2014 Winter Olympics. “As we got to know Roz over the last four years, it became clear that she's a natural fit for the Spyder brand, and possesses a rare combination of raw athletic talent, professional work ethic, drive to be the best, and a personality that's just great to be around,” explained Rowan. “Our focus in the coming years will be to ensure she's in the best position to achieve her goals within the sport of professional freestyle skiing, including producing products that mesh well with her personality and resonate with her dedicated fans.”

Groenewoud possesses the same enthusiasm for her continued relationship with Spyder. “I'm thrilled that my long-term relationship with Spyder is continuing. Loyalty is very important to me so the continued support from the experienced and creative people at Spyder means so much," said Groenewoud. "They have sponsored many elite Alpine skiers so they understand the pressures of working toward qualifying and competing in the Olympics. When I signed with Spyder four years ago, I was so stoked. Spyder was my first choice because it is a dedicated ski brand that makes clothing with the best of quality, style and function ... It is awesome that Spyder is backing me in my goals to progress as an athlete, stand on top of more podiums at X Games, World Championships, and Dew Tour, and qualify for the Olympic team and stand on top of the podium for Canada in Sochi,” she continued.
