WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 16, 2006 – If you are searching for the most current demographics on today's sports participants, the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) most likely has what you need. Detailed background information on sports participation in America can be found in Volumes I, II, and III of SGMA's Superstudy® of Sports Participation (2006 edition). These volumes contain a statistical analysis of today's casual and dedicated athletes/recreational sports enthusiasts. Volumes I, II, and III provide the reader with relevant data as it applies to fitness activities, recreational sports and outdoor pursuits.

The Fitness Activities Study (Volume I), a report on participation in 31 activities, is divided into 16 non-equipment fitness activities and 15 equipment-based activities.
In the Recreational Sports Study (Volume II), there are 14 team sports; three racquet sports; three personal contact sports; four indoor games; six skating sports; and five ‘other' recreational activities.
The Outdoor Activities Study (Volume III), which consists of 38 outdoor-related pursuits, reports on five categories — 11 in outdoors; 10 in shooting sports; nine in water sports; five in snow sports; and three in fishing.
For any given sport/activity in Volume I, II, or III, there are many demographic breakdowns for total and “frequent” participation based on gender, age, household income, geographic region of residence, population center, and level of education. There are also special statistics which reveal levels of participation in terms of days played within the last year, number of years of participation, average number of days played in 2005, participation in other sports/activities, expected participation in 2005, and ratings as favorite activity.

SGMA's Superstudy of Sports Participation (conducted by American Sports Data, Inc.) may be purchased by volume or as a set. To order a copy of Volume I, II, or III of the Superstudy of Sports Participation, access www.SGMA.com and click on Insight, then Participation Reports, and then SuperStudy.
