Outdoor Retailer attendees can see the entire new line
LYNNWOOD, WASH. - July 24, 2017
Sometime in the third century, a Mediterranean toolmaker produced the first multi-tool. It included a three-pronged fork, a small spatula, a pick, a spike and a knife blade. Now, some 1,800 years later, SOG Knives & Tools launches an entire new way of looking at the multi-tool: The Baton Series.
With four distinct models, SOG’s revolutionary Baton multi-tools reimagine the look, shape, and feel of the multi-tool while delivering above and beyond the goal of versatility and adaptability that toolmakers have strived for since the tumultuous days of the Roman Empire.
SOG’s entire new Baton line will be on display at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market trade show being held in late July in Salt Lake City (Booth 120).
A collaborative effort between SOG’s award-winning product engineers and IDEO, one of the world’s leading innovative design firms, the Baton Series combines the functionality of quality tools with a form that suits the lifestyle of modern users. Each of the four Batons are cylindrical – not much longer than a standard No. 2 pencil and about as thick as a Magic Marker. Once the break-open action of a Baton is activated, a host of purposeful tools is revealed inside.
“We’ve created a multi-tool with aesthetics unlike anything in this space, but one that still delivers all the performance users demand,” said Spencer Frazer, founder of SOG Knives & Tools. “It’s a complete new way of looking at the multi-tool.”
The smallest of the Baton Series, the Q1, encapsulates the everyday essentials with its spring-assisted scissors, replaceable pressurized ballpoint pen, bottle opener, and flathead screwdriver. Checking in with just a little more length and heft than the Q1, is the Q2 that features a straight- edge blade, a powerful LED flashlight, a bottle opener, and a flathead screwdriver.
The Q2 just won the 2017 Most Innovative Imported Design award at the Blade Show, an annual trade show of the cutlery industry.
“The Q1 and the Q2 are perfect for the everyday tasks we all must tackle,” said SOG’s Frazer. “They include the essential tools — the must-haves for 21st Century century life.”
The versatile Baton Q3 is equipped to tackle situations both close-to-home and far afield. With 13 tools — including pliers, a straight blade, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, and a bottle opener — the Q3 is the perfect choice for a do-everything tool. The top-of-the-line Q4 is a modified and amplified version of the Q3, featuring a magnetic ratchet driver for the included 12-piece hex bit kit.
Pricing on the Batons range from $54 for the Q1 to $120 for the Q4.
