BOULDER, Colo. (August 25, 2008) – Slumberjack® introduces a full line of “green†sleeping bags designed specifically for the family camping market. The new line encompasses three mummy bags designed for all members of the family, including mom, dad and the kids. Roughly 80 percent of each bag is made from post-consumer recycled materials, including the shell, liner and insulation.
“The ‘green' trend is nothing new to the outdoor category,†said Kenny Ballard, president of Slumberjack. “What's unique about our eco-friendly bags is that they're designed specifically for family campers. There's a bag designed for each member of the family and they come loaded with features and material innovations. Our recycled bags are not only good for the environment, but they're a great value for families.â€
Slumberjack's new eco-friendly sleeping bag line includes the Gavilan, a men's sleeping bag available in two temperature ratings (0°F/15°F; $169.99/$149.99). The line also includes the Savona 15°F ($149.99), a bag designed specifically for women, as well as the Kintaro 25°F ($99.99), which is made for children.
All three bags feature a recycled polyester ripstop outer and polyester liner. In addition, the bags are filled with Climashield® Green, a recycled polyester insulation that uses interlocking fibers to provide superior durability, loft and breathability. Climashield Green does not clump, shift or move, ensuring an even distribution of insulation, eliminating cold spots in the bag.
The bags are constructed using double layer, offset stitching, which further prevents insulation from clumping together. To enhance warmth and comfort, each bag includes an insulated draft tube, which keeps cold air out and prevents heat loss through the zipper coils. A large hook-and-loop closure ensures the bag is cinched tight and prevents zippers from separating.
Each sleeping bag features a fully contoured hood, which wraps snuggly around a user's head. The hood can also be flipped inside-out to act as a pillow. Adjustments are made using easy-access drawcords.
Finally, each bag features a trapezoid foot box, anti-snag zipper protection and an external utility pocket that is used to store small items like an MP3 player, keys or flashlight. They also come with a compression stuff sack for easy transport and storage.
Since the Savona is designed specifically for woman, the bag mimics the size, shape and contours of the female body. It stands out from traditional mummy sleeping bags due to its unique, hourglass shape. The bag comes with extra insulation in the hood, upper torso and footbox, which provides added warmth and comfort during those chilly nights around the campfire.
The Gavilan 15°F sleeping bag measures 32 in. by 80 in. and weighs 3 lbs., 15 oz. The Savona 15°F bag measures 28 in. by 76 in. and weighs in at 3 lbs, 3 oz. Finally, the Kintaro 25°F bag measures 28 in. by 56 in. and weighs 2 lbs., 6 oz.
