San Francisco, CA--Sierra magazine's Editor-in-Chief Bob Sipchen is profiled in the Fall 2008 issue of USA Today's "Open Air" magazine. Sipchen has been at the helm of Sierra just over a year but in that time has dramatically transformed the look and content of the magazine. And Sipchen's interest in the outdoor industry, and what the Sierra Club has done to support it, is reflected now in a much stronger voice in the pages of Sierra magazine.

His "Open Air" profile begins with "Like you, this outdoors lover finds it hard to "play green" all the time--and he's a heavyweight at the Sierra Club. As an outdoorsman who loves everything from surfing and backpacking to fly-fishing and mountain biking, Bob Sipchen isn't one to sit around.

But his other passion, preserving the planet, sometimes conflicts. Here, Sipchen, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, steps away from his role as deputy national communications director for the Sierra Club to vent about eco-Puritans and rhapsodize about the rush of snowboarding steep hills."
