Portland, OR – June 7, 2011 – Nau – the urban + outdoor apparel company defining a new value equation in beauty, performance and sustainability – is launching today its third Portrait for Spring 2011: Sean Carasso, founder of Falling Whistles, the nonprofit bringing the plight of child soldiers in the Congo to the public eye through wearable art.

“Sean embodies human compassion and the burning desire to make things right in the world. His passion for the child soldiers of the Congo has moved us deeply, as has his ability to take that passion and turn it into a successful grass roots guerilla program that is changing lives and bringing awareness to the plight of these kids,” said Mark Galbraith, General Manager of Nau. “In addition to highlighting Sean and his vital work, we are proud to be contributing to Falling Whistles through the sales of our apparel.”

From now until July 15, Nau will contribute five percent of all online and in-store sales of the Poplulus Blazer to Falling Whistles through the company's Partners for Change program.

An avid adventurer, Sean has spent much of his life pulling diverse communities together. After starting a number of small companies and grassroots initiatives, he traveled the world, volunteering with Invisible Children.

In late 2007, he journeyed into the Democratic Republic of Congo on what was meant to be a short stop. It was there he heard of children too small to carry a gun, who were sent to the front lines of war armed with only a whistle. The Falling Whistles campaign was born in response to a small journal entry he wrote that night.

Falling Whistles raises money through donations and through the sales of its wearable art, the whistle. These funds then go to partners in Congo that are rehabilitating rescued child soldiers through education, art, sports, music, human rights education, vocational skills training, medical treatment and nutritional services. Each organization is working to give children the tools to be whistleblowers and stand for peace within the war-region. To donate directly, go to www.fallingwhistles.com.
