SCARPA rock shoe line wins eighth 5-star review/award in two years

SCARPA North America earns eighth award or five-star review for its rock shoe line in two years.

BOULDER, Colo. – Earning its eighth five-star review or editors' choice award in the last two years from climbing media for its rock shoe program, SCARPA North America this week garnered a five-star review from Rock and Ice Magazine for the Feroce, its newest sport-climbing and bouldering shoe.

“The Feroce is one of the best sport-climbing shoes I've ever worn,” Rock and Ice Senior Editor Andrew Bisharat wrote in the review. “It is an all-around workhorse that excels on steep routes requiring toe power, and technical slabs where spot-on precision is a must.”

The award follows on the heels of SCARPA winning an Alpinist Mountain Standards Award in recent weeks for its Spectro, a performance edging shoe that also won a Best in Gear Award last year from Rock and Ice.

Other new rock shoes from SCARPA that have won awards or top-ranked reviews in the last two years include the Mago, Booster and Techno. Climbing Magazine gave the Mago and the Techno its Editors' Choice Award, while Rock and Ice gave the Mago a Best in Gear Award and the Booster a five-star review.

All of the new shoes that won awards use SCARPA's Active Rand Technology. Designed by Climbing Line Manager Heinz Mariacher, Active Rand Technology is a dynamic way of designing how a climbing shoe works – adapting to the changing foot while loading and unloading body weight, effectively storing and releasing energy. This action focuses the shoe's direct power for maximum performance. Active Rand designs on SCARPA shoes are tailored by model for the type of climbing for which a given shoe is designed. The Feroce, for instance, uses a V-tension rand, which connects underfoot and focuses power in key parts of the shoe for climbing thin cracks, steep terrain and technical slabs.
