SAUCONY® TOTAL RUN SYSTEM™ APPAREL LINE DEBUTS FOR FALL 2014
RunDry™; RunWarm™; RunShield™. Three collections. One Purpose:
Freedom to Run No Matter the Weather
LEXINGTON, MA (July 29, 2014) – According to Running USA, 75% of runners train year-round no matter the weather. Saucony, committed to empowering runners through performance innovation, believes every runner deserves the freedom to do just that, confident they will stay warm, dry and protected. This belief, along with athlete insights and research findings, inspired the development of the Saucony Total Run System apparel line.
The Total Run System’s three distinct collections−RunDry, RunWarm and RunShield−are specifically engineered to work with the runner, delivering the most versatile weather protection for runners to date. Catering to both performance and style and engineered with a dynamic fit system, the Total Run System is built to move with the runner. The Total Run System will be available at select running specialty retailers beginning August 1, 2014.
“For runners there are no snow days,” said Pat O’Malley, senior vice president of global product for Saucony. “In developing the Total Run System we redefined our apparel equation so we could deliver more of what runners need and want: advanced sweat management to help keep skin dry; highly breathable thermal insulation to maximize body warmth; and protective shielding from wind and water.
“The line was developed with direct input from our athletes and research provided by the Saucony Human Performance and Innovation Lab. The system’s three individual collections are engineered to work independently or in tandem, further enhancing the line’s performance functionality. Runners now have the freedom to run throughout the year with confidence, no matter the forecast,” said O’Malley.
SAUCONY TOTAL RUN SYSTEM
Each component of the Total Run System performs a specific function to create a personal environment around the runner with different levels of comfort, breathability, and protection all in a variety of styles that
includes tops, shorts, tights, pants, and jackets, as well as hats and gloves. Saucony’s advanced, functional textiles, including Velocity Knit™; PowerKnit™; HydraLite™; DryLete™; Siberius Ultra™; and FlexShell™ are specifically engineered to help runners move and perform at their best.
In creating the Total Run System, Saucony designers focused on building a three-level apparel layering system to allow runners to add or remove items, depending on the weather conditions.
- The RunDryselection ofbase layers provides comfort by wicking sweat away from the body and while offering lightweight insulation when running in cold weather conditions.
- The RunWarmcollection of mid layers provides insulation and warmth.
- The RunShieldassortment of outer layers protects the runner from wind and water.
Whether running in summer heat or winter cold, runners sweat. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, sweat rates in athletes commonly range between 0.5 to 2 liters an hour. Saucony’s performance fabrics deliver breathable comfort in soft stretch fabrics that wick sweat away from the skin, helping to keep the body dry and comfortable. The RunDry assortment’s long, slim fits keeps the body’s core warm in the winter and won’t ride up during activity. Thumbholes on the collection’s long-sleeve tops increase hand coverage for warmth and help to keep sleeves in place. The RunDry collection includes short and long sleeve tops and tanks, tights, capris and shorts.
Highlightsof the RunDry collection include:
The men’s and women’s Velocity Long Sleeve (SRP: $42.00) and Velocity Short Sleeve(SRP: $38.00) are engineered with Velocity Knit, a buttery soft, stretch fabric that moves moisture away from the skin. The slim fit helps keep the core warm and makes layering a breeze. A back envelope pocket holds keys or gel and the reflective front and back seams keep runners visible.
Altitude Base Layer
Frosty days are no sweat with the Altitude Base Layer ($65.00) for men and women. Wool fiber absorbs as much as a third of its weight in moisture, gradually releasing it through evaporation. The hollow core, polyester-wool blended yarn in the mock-neck top traps air to keep runners warm while moving moisture away from skin, helping to keep the body dry and comfortable in extremely cold conditions. The addition of nylon to the Altitude Base Layer’s fabric allows it to maintain its softness without irritating the skin over the longest of runs. A fitted, extra-long silhouette with hidden elastic thumb holes allows for effortless layering and warm wrists. Underarm grommets provide extra ventilation to move sweat away from the body.
The women’s Bullet Tight(SRP: $68.00) in smooth Powerluxe fabric will make this lightweight tight a long run favorite. A wide, flattering waistband sits smooth and flat. The zippered back storage pocket and side cargo pockets stow everything needed to go the distance.
The RunWarm collection offers insulating capabilities to retain body heat by trapping warm air around the runner’s body. The RunWarm collection includes pullover sportops, wool-blended hoodies, and insulated tights and pants.
Highlightsof theRunWarm collection include:
Ridge Runner Sportop
In distinct men’s and women’s styles, the Ridge Runner Sportop ($95.00) delivers all the proven benefits of a wool exterior−warmth, moisture management and odor control−with an extra soft, brushed polyester/nylon interior for comfort. A long, lean fit and extra-long sleeves with thumbholes keep sleeves in place and hands warm. The men’s sportop features a front zipper and hidden zip pocket on the left sleeve. The women’s version is designed as a hoodie with a front kangaroo pocket.
Omni Drylete Sportop
Fall and winter runners can depend on the Omni Drylete Sportop ($85.00) whether on a snowy trail or city street. In both men’s and women’s options, the sportop’s superior stretch thermal Drylete fabric offers exceptional moisture management to help keep runners dry and comfortable. Hands stay warm thanks to envelope thumbholes and extra-long cuffs. Reflective stitching on the garment’s front and back and reflective insets at the back shoulder keeps runners visible in low light conditions. A USB_LED rechargeable clip-on light attaches to the right wrist for extra visibility.
The plush, brushed Siberius Pant in men’s (SRP: $85.00) and women’s (SRP: $80.00) styles is the go-to choice for cold, frosty mornings. Engineered with Siberius Ultra fabric, the Siberius logo on the hip changes from white to blue when temperatures dip below freezing. Zippered hand pockets in the men’s and a zippered back storage pocket in the women’s model keeps essentials
safe and secure. The men’s pant features an elastic waist with a front internal drawstring and plush logo gripper elastic at the back waist for comfort. The women’s pant offers panels along the side seams for ease of movement and a wide, flat waistband that won’t dig in, with a continuous drawstring that won’t get lost.
RunShield, the Total Run System’s outermost layer, is also the first line of defense against wind, rain, sleet and snow. The collection offers wind and water-resistant shells that protect runners from light rain and snow, and fully seam-sealed wind and waterproof jackets for when there’s steady, windswept rain or snow. The RunShield jacket allows excess body heat and moisture to escape through vents to prevent sweat from building up.
Highlights of the RunShield collection include:
The Razor Jacket (SRP: $175.00) is the lightest waterproof running jacket in the market. The Razor Jacket features Saucony’s exclusive FlexShell fabric, an extremely lightweight, waterproof and breathable stretch material also used in the brand’s performance footwear. The jacket is fully seam-sealed to provide a complete waterproof barrier to the elements. The two-way waterproof front zipper with an interior draft flap for extra weather protection delivers a just right fit. Center back shingles and underarm grommets provide extra ventilation to move moisture out. The whisper-quiet Razor Jacket’s packable design allows runners to take it wherever they go.
Because the Nomad assortment features Saucony’s latest fabric innovation−FlexShell−the pieces are lightweight in addition to being wind and water resistant. The series, in both men’s and women’s styles, includes the Nomad Jacket (SRP: $110.00) with FlexShell on the jacket’s front, sleeves, and upper and lower back to keep nasty weather at bay. The Nomad Sportop(SRP: $85.00) combines the versatility of a pullover with the technical performance of a lightweight jacket. The Nomad Pant (SRP: $85.00) features wind and water resistant FlexShell on the front legs and at the back calf. A soft, ultra-breathable fleece lining in the pant wicks moisture away from the body to keep runners warm, dry and comfortable.
