Fitness Town is extremely happy to have had the opportunity to participate alongside other retailers such as Staples and Starbucks to assist the Salvation Army with their fund-raising endeavors. Every September, single-parent and low-income families struggle to equip their children for a new school year.
Each year, The Salvation Army supports these families by distributing donated school supplies. Given the current economic downturn, The Salvation Army anticipated an increase in demand for this service. To handle the increased demand, during the months of July and August, all Lower Mainland Starbucks, Staples and Fitness Town locations collected donations, back packs and school supplies for the children in need, through The Salvation Army. We’re very happy to have had the support from our customers and suppliers in collecting backpacks for the B.C. Lower Mainland communities. Fitness Town would like to thank the following suppliers for their generous donations:
We all need to take an active role in this endeavor and Salvation Army deserves much kudos for their continued efforts and community support. For information about how you can get involved with the Salvation Army fund-raising opportunities, contact Kirsten at The Salvation Army Vancouver Family Services directly at (604) 872-7676 Salvation Army Backpack Drive - Summer 2009 from Dai Manuel on Vimeo. Fitness Town teams up with Staples and Starbucks to collect back packs and school supplies for British Columbia, Lower Mainland kids between grades 1 and 12. In all, cash donations allowed over 400 kids to be sent to summer camps along with over 1700 school back packs stocked with school supplies collected. This video is a slide show from the August 18th backpack packing session where 400 backpacks were stuffed full of school supplies. Thank you everyone for your generous contributions of time, money and supplies.
We challenge other retailers to step up and assist in the program next year!
