November 28, 2011 (Salt Lake City, Utah) Black Diamond Equipment, Ltd., a leading global innovator in climbing, skiing and mountain sports equipment, is pleased to announce the promotion of Ryan Gellert to the newly established position of Black Diamond Equipment brand president.
Peter Metcalf will remain CEO of Black Diamond Inc. (Nasdaq: BDE) while Gellert will become the Black Diamond Equipment brand president effective January 2nd, 2012.
“This announcement is about the ascendancy of Ryan Gellert from a warehouse line employee packing boxes in 1998 to project leader and Managing Director of BD Asia from 2005 to 2010,” explains Metcalf. “Currently Ryan serves as vice president of BD Inc. supply chain management. In his new role as Black Diamond Equipment brand president his responsibilities will be globally focused on all specific brand functions.”
Metcalf announced the pending split of his role at an all company meeting in February 2011, beginning a search for a highly qualified individual to fortify the top of the organization and provide focused leadership for the BD brand.
Gellert will be the become only the second person to manage and lead the BD brand since Black Diamond Equipment’s inception in 1989 and only the 3rd person to manage it in its true 54 year history.

Gellert earned a J.D. at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2005. During his time in law school, Ryan studied European Union Law and Chinese Law and Legal Institutions at East China University of Politics and Law in Shanghai, China. Prior education includes a B.S.B.A in Finance from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte and an M.B.A. from Florida Institute of Technology. Gellert is an avid backcountry snowboarder and an active climber of over 15 years having climbed in Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, the Middle East and South Africa.
