686 Technical Apparel, a 20+ year leader in winter outerwear, and Nikwax, the worldwide leader in high performance waterproofing and cleaning products for technical outdoor gear, have teamed up to provide the most washable, durable outerwear experience possible.
For its Winter 15/16 collection, all of 686’s GLCR® Collection technical jackets and pants, made with its infiDRY® fabric, will come with a free sachet containing two washes worth of Nikwax Tech Wash®. The announcement comes as a compliment to 686’s current “It’s 100% Washable Campaign” that aims to educate the public that 686’s exclusive infiDRY waterproof and breathable fabric and garment construction will not only hold up to seasons of abuse, but perform better when washed regularly with Nikwax Tech Wash®. Consumers can also feel confident washing their 686 technical apparel knowing that Nikwax is environmentally friendly and the only major aftercare line to have never used aerosols or fluorocarbons.
This collaboration also marks the first time a technical winter outerwear brand has included an on-garment attachment of Nikwax Tech Wash® as added value to the consumer. Dirt, oil and grime are not only unsightly, but they also compromise the performance of waterproof and breathable membranes. Nikwax Tech Wash® safely and effectively cleans your outerwear while also reviving its breathability and water repellency. The inclusion of Nikwax Tech Wash with the purchase of a 686 GLCR jacket will provide consumers with an easy way of prolonging the life of their 686 gear.
“At 686, we take pride in making sure our products withstand a fulltime of use. The strategic partnership between Nikwax and 686 is one of first of its kind on outerwear, maximizing the investment of the end consumer,” explains Michael Akira West, founder and CEO of 686. “686, as a brand, has always championed technical innovation and Nikwax’s leadership in creating superior technologies that enhance the value and longevity in technical garments in the outdoor industry makes them a perfect partner for us.”
Nikwax sachets will also be available at 686’s All Weather Labs, popping up at mountains throughout the USA, Canada and Europe throughout the season.
"Nikwax is excited for the opportunity to collaborate with 686 this winter," said Rick Meade, President of Nikwax North America. "The 686 customer rides hard in all weather conditions and expects their gear to work just as hard. By partnering, we can keep that customer on the hill longer and elevate their experience. We want to celebrate getting dirty and educate the customer on when it's time to clean up."
Stop by your local Nikwax and 686 dealer or a 686 All Weather Lab this season to experience the difference, and remember to “Ride, wash, repeat.”
