June 5, 2013 (Boulder, CO): REI, a foundational partner of the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, has just announced that it has extended support for Leave No Trace’s mobile education program, the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers. REI’s long history of involvement with Leave No Trace has included the creation, development and translation of the Center’s award-winning youth program, PEAK. The outdoor retailer has also funded everything from national initiatives to build Leave No Trace volunteerism to constituency and infrastructure work for the organization.
“REI’s involvement in this program marks an important milestone,” according to Dana Watts, Leave No Trace’s executive director. “As we try to quickly grow the number of Traveling Trainer teams on the ground, it only makes sense that REI would step up and lend their resources to make it happen.”
The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers conduct 500+ training events across the country and reach over a million people every year. The program is Leave No Trace’s most recognized and relies of educational programs, like PEAK, that REI played key roles in developing. In partnership with REI, Leave No Trace will be facilitating education in Chicago, Portland, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Seattle and Denver. The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will teach half-hour to 2-day Leave No Trace workshops and work with groups ranging from schools, to youth and outdoor organizations, national parks staff, and more.
“REI is dedicated to caring for outdoor places that our members love,” said David Jayo, REI’s Corporate Giving Manager. “We are proud to support this Leave No Trace program to connect with our members and outdoor enthusiasts in some of our most active communities in the country.”
