Athletes can now register for the 2013 edition of the Winter Mountain Games, returning to Vail February 7-10 with competitions in climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, winter mountain biking and more. The Games offers one of the largest cash purses in winter mountain sports and celebrates the spirit of mountain lifestyle with free concerts and expo activities for the whole family.

Effective today, registration for the 2013 Winter Mountain Games is available online at http://www.mountaingames.com/winter/register.aspx. The Vail Valley Foundation, organizers of the event, is offering a tiered structure this year, with $5 off the standard registration cost between now and January 1. After January 1, registration will be available at regular cost, and will increase by $5 beginning February 4. Early registration is encouraged as athlete gift bags are limited and many events reached capacity last year. More than 1,000 adventure athletes and 15,000 spectators are anticipated over the course of four days.

New in 2013, the Winter Mountain Games will give amateur athletes the chance to qualify for two marquis events. On Saturday, February 9, there will be a new citizen's climbing competition on the 75-foot mixed climbing wall. Tele skiers and mountain bikers who like to go big will also have the chance to compete alongside some of the world's best pros with new amateur qualifying rounds for the Telemark and Bike Best Trick competitions.

“In addition to offering best-in-class on-mountain entertainment and competition, we want an event that stands apart for celebrating the athletes of tomorrow,” states Ceil Folz, President of the Vail Valley Foundation. “We continually evaluate new and upcoming activities to pioneer before they become mainstream. This is what keeps the Games fresh and exhilarating, year after year.”

“Eddie Bauer is proud to return as a sponsor of the Winter and Summer Games,” said Mike Egeck, president and chief executive officer for Eddie Bauer. “From the spirit of the competitions to the celebration of art and music, these premier festivals have become an ideal venue that brings together all aspects of the active, outdoor lifestyle. Our participation allows our brand to directly engage with these passionate consumers, and fuels our ongoing development of innovative apparel and gear that enables them to live their adventures.”

The 2013 Winter Mountain Games are also upping the ante this year with entertainment, adding a third night of free music to the lineup. Two of the hottest DJs on the circuit – Ana Sia and Kraddy – will kick off the weekend on Thursday night at Checkpoint Charlie. Friday night, Denver's own Flobots will bring a mix of rock, funk and hip-hop. John Brown's Body will round out the weekend with some reggae at Golden Peak on Saturday night.

The Winter Mountain Games presented by Eddie Bauer are a project of the Vail Valley Foundation. More information: http://www.mountaingames.com, @MountainGames on Twitter and Facebook.com/MountainGames.
