Boulder, Colo – (Jan. 12, 2009) Rab, the leading British manufacturer of technical mountaineering garments, gear and accessories is pleased to be working with the Haute – Gaspésie Avalanche Center based in the Chic-Choc Mountains in the central Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec, Canada.

The Haute – Gaspésie Avalanche Center chose to work with Rab because of Rab's focus on functionality and performance. Rab's partnership with eVent® fabric creates light, breathable outerwear that facilitates ultimate freedom and movement. Rab's clothing and equipment allows the forecasters to reduce total gear weight and lighten layers without compromising performance and comfort.

Philippe Gautier, avalanche forecaster at the center notes, “The equipment is oriented toward detail and streamlined to the needs of the user and realities of the natural environment. Our team spends over 200 days in the field a year regardless of weather conditions. We are out there to ultimately save lives and we count on our gear to help us stay out there as long as possible.”

The Haute – Gaspésie Avalanche Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving avalanche safety in Quebec, Canada. Established in 1999, the center has been funded over the years with the support of federal and regional partners of the outdoor industry. Based in a notoriously harsh environment with strong winds, bitter cold and damp conditions, the Chic- Choc Mountains provide a wonderful winter playground.

The Haute – Gaspésie Avalanche Center focuses on understanding public knowledge, research and development and forecasting avalanches in the Chic-Choc Mountains to ultimately reduce the risk of accidents and save lives. They also provide avalanche courses for those looking to get out and enjoy the backcounty in the Chic-Choc Mountains.

In addition to offices in Boulder, Colo., and Derbyshire, UK, Rab is also distributed in Canada by Outdoor Approach, located in Alberta, Canada.

About Rab:
Rab Carrington, one of Britain's foremost mountaineers, established the Rab brand in 1981 to design and manufacture the worlds finest down clothing and sleeping bags. Right from these early days Rab created a reputation for producing garments that are truly for ‘the most extreme conditions in the world' and for searching out the finest technical fabrics to use in their designs. Rab clothing stands among the most technical and innovative on the market, designed to meet the exacting demands of the Scottish mountains that remain the inspiration and testing ground for many of the products. The Rab brand continues to be run by climbers for climbers and all products are tested in extreme environments by our team of mountain athletes.
