A non-profit foundation that encourages women who've endured life-altering setbacks to unleash their ‘inner Athlete’ has limited charity bibs available to the public for the Marathon
(San Diego, CA – June 25th, 2014) - - The Project Athena Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit foundation that encourages women who've endured life-altering setbacks to unleash the ‘Athlete and Adventurer’ within and complete the journey of a lifetime, is pleased to partner with the San Francisco Marathon as an Official Charity Partner. The San Francisco Marathon and Half Marathons (1st and 2nd) will be held on Sunday, July 27th.
As part of the partnership, Project Athena is able to offer limited bibs for the popular “1st Half Marathon” and the San Francisco Marathon. Sold through a fundraising requirement of $400, the half-marathon charity bibs sold out last month, but five bibs still remain for the Marathon. The fundraising requirement to secure a bib for the marathon is $500.
The remaining charity bibs are available to the public and can be purchased at: http://www.projectathena.org/San-Francisco-Marathon.php
Project Athena will use the charity proceeds raised through the sale of these five bibs to provide travel expenses, entry fees, coaching and equipment to help women who have endured a life-altering setbacks accomplish athletic and adventurous triumphs.
Project Athena was founded by the recently named CNN Hero, Robyn Benincasa. Also a ten-time Ironman Finisher, three-time Guinness Endurance Paddling World Record Holder and World Champion Adventure Racer, Benincasa was inspired to create Project Athena as a result of her own medical setbacks of two complete hip replacements and the gratitude of being able to go on “adventures” again.
Benincasa comments about the partnership with the San Francisco Marathon, “We are honored to be an official charity partner of this historic running event. The mission of the foundation is to put Athenas ina position to inspire and amaze themselves – It's not about getting back to what they were, it’s about being the very best of what they are today.”
For those that already signed up for the event, there is still an opportunity to join the Project Athena team to help fundraise and support other women who are in need of a life-affirming experience.
