West End, North Carolina – Polarmax, technical base-layer innovator for over 20 years, introduces Acclimate Wool tops and bottoms for fall 2008.

Ideal for snow sports and other rigorous cold-weather activities, Acclimate Wool is a blend of 50 percent super-fine merino wool with 40 percent Acclimate Dry Polyester. To compliment the use of wool, a renewable resource, Acclimate Wool's remaining ten percent is recycled polyester sourced from used plastic bottles.

The merino wool used in Acclimate Wool is treated to eliminate the scratch and itch of yesteryear's bulky sweaters to make a soft and lightweight garment. The wool fibers are highly absorbent, keeping you cool in warm conditions and warm when the temperature plunges below freezing. The wool also insulates when wet and is naturally durable, anti-microbial, odor-resistant, and hypo-allergenic.

Acclimate Dry, Polarmax's proprietary polyester, is known for its ability to quickly dissipate perspiration and move moisture away from the skin. According to Polarmax, a strip of Acclimate Dry fabric dipped in a vessel of water is able to pull water vertically at a rate of three inches in three minutes. 100-percent wool fiber is not nearly as adept, unable to move a measurable rate of water even after ten minutes. Blended with merino wool fibers, Acclimate Dry polyester creates a powerful moisture management and insulation system.

“Wool and recycled fibers are definitely trends in sports and outdoor apparel,” says Trey Harris, director of marketing and product development for Polarmax's manufacturer, Longworth Industries. “Acclimate Wool is our unique take on these trends,” says Harris. “The way the wool and Acclimate Dry fibers work together makes Acclimate Wool a special garment and a base layer you'll love to wear when there's a chill in the air,” says Harris.

Acclimate Wool weighs 6.5 ounces per square yard and is classified as System 4—Polarmax's layering system designated for winter performance during high energy activities.

Acclimate Wool garments have a relaxed fit and are constructed using flat-stitches or “clean seams” which are strategically positioned to reduce friction from load bearing and sensitive anatomy. Backpackers, for example, will appreciate specially designed yoke and clean seam construction on tops that eliminates shoulder rub from pack straps.

For both men and women, Acclimate Wool is available in a crew top (retail $55), zip mock ($65), and pant ($55). Colors for men include Onyx, Bark, and Southern Moss. Colors for women include Onyx, Bark, and Maple Leaf. Acclimate Wool will be available at ski, snow board, and outdoor sports stores nationwide this fall.
