Steamboat, Colo., -– point6, the independently owned designer and manufacturer of the “Best Wool Socks Ever,” is excited to announce their partnership with Grand Targhee Resort's pilot guest electricity conservation initiative that will launch during President's Day holiday weekend.

As of Friday, February 12th, guests of the Grand Targhee Resort are invited to join the resort in an Electricity Conservation Pledge, which encourages each guest to save one kilowatt hour of electricity during their stay by turning down the heat, and turning off all lights, heat and electronic devices when they leave the room. Guests who become pledge participants at check-in will receive a pair of point6 premium merino wool socks from point6.

point6's partnership, along with Bonneville Power Administration, will assist Grand Targhee Resort's current sustainability efforts and goal for reducing their electricity use by 10 percent below their five-year average. This encompasses the resort's climate action plan to reduce Grand Targhee's carbon footprint by 18 percent by 2020. Grand Targhee Resort will measure the effectiveness of this pilot with the goal of implementing it for the entire 2010/11 winter season.

“Thanks to additional funding from the Bonneville Power Association, we were able to partner with point6 and provide a great incentive for our guests to change their behavior. Giving out a pair of point6 socks reinforces the idea of putting on a warm layer instead of turning up the heat,” said Christina Thomure, Director of Sustainable Operations at Grand Targhee Resort.

“We also wanted to partner with a manufacturer who shares our emphasis on sustainability. In addition to the inherent sustainability of merino wool as a renewable resource, Point6 has shown a great commitment to the environment through their partnership with 1% for the Planet.”
