Petzl and Utah Open Lands to Host 6th Annual Banff Mountain Film Festi

Petzl and Utah Open Lands will join forces to host the 32nd annual Banff Mountain Film Fest in Moab, Utah. This international film fest will help raise funds and awareness for Utah Open Lands.

Petzl, a leading manufacturer of hands-free lightingâ„¢ and technical climbing gear, and Utah Open Lands (UOL), a non-profit land trust conservation association, are once again joining forces to bring the 32nd annual Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour to Moab Utah. This marks the 6th anniversary of Petzl and UOL hosting the tour in Moab. Funds raised by the event are used to protect Utah's open spaces and pay for the stewardship of the UOL property at the base of Castleton Tower.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will be presented on Monday, March 9,th 2009 at the Grand County High School Auditorium (608 S. 400 E) at 7:00pm. The Film Festival, originally taking place in Banff, Alberta Canada, is a competition that features international submissions of the world's best mountain footage from sports and adventure to culture and conservation. The event has also served to bring into focus the importance of preserving open spaces, and highlights Petzl's continued commitment to supporting land preservation.

Petzl America has been a long time supporter of Utah Open Lands, most notably in helping to protect the 221-acre baselands of Castleton Tower. Petzl matched contributions from climbers during UOL's Campaign to preserve traditional access to the famed climbing tower, and continues to play a role in the stewardship of the baselands.

“This 6th year of the Banff Mountain Film Festival also brings into focus Petzl's long term corporate commitment to Utah Open Lands and the protection of world renowned landscapes,” said Wendy Fisher, Executive Director of Utah Open Lands.
“Petzl has been a tremendous partner in preserving some of the most precious landscapes in Utah,” Fisher continued. “Beyond the company's leadership and continued funding for Castleton Tower, Petzl's contributions to Utah Open Lands has enabled the organization to protect the access to Grandeur Peak and its climbing area in Salt Lake City and has enabled our continued stewardship of the lands we protect along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.”
