FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peregrine Outfitters based in Williston, Vermont has announced that it will take a Leadership Role in the Green Mountain Club's Second Century Campaign to secure the future of the Long Trail. Peregrine will donate $25,000 over the next five years in support of the nation's oldest long distance hiking trail. Ben Rose, Executive Director of the Green Mountain Club said, “Peregrine Outfitters has played a major role in our success. They stepped up early in this campaign with a leadership commitment that has really set the tone for corporate support.”
The GMC has set a minimum goal of $5.25M for the Second Century Campaign, which includes permanent protection of unprotected land in the Long Trail corridor, permanently funding the stewardship of GMC's land and easements, ensuring ongoing maintenance of trails and shelters through a permanent endowment, and addressing critical headquarters infrastructure needs by reconstructing an environmentally advanced, energy efficient gathering and education facility in Waterbury Center, VT.

Bob Olsen, President of Peregrine Outfitters noted that, “We've supported the Green Mountain Club for a number of years. Myself, my wife Debbie, and our son Josh have all hiked the Trail end-to-end. The Green Mountain Club does a tremendous job managing a resource, the Long Trail, that is as important to the region as the mountains themselves. They do so responsibly with little fanfare and a small infrastructure. The Second Century Campaign is well thought out and has very achievable goals. We're happy to play a part.”

About The Green Mountain Club:
The mission of the Green Mountain Club is to make the Vermont Mountains play a larger part in the life of the people by protecting and maintaining the Long Trail System and fostering, through education, the stewardship of Vermont's hiking trails and mountains. Additionally, the GMC's advocacy and education efforts also safeguard Vermont's many other hiking trails. GMC volunteers and staff teach low-impact practices and safety skills that outdoor enthusiasts use whenever they hit the backwoods. Through its land protection program in northern Vermont, the Club has protected more than fifty-five miles of the Long Trail System and 16,000 acres of backcountry land.
