BOULDER, CO (June 23, 2011)--For the second consecutive year, PEAKS Magazine has been named the Best Tourism Publication and Gold Winner for 2011 in the 8th Annual Magnum Opus Awards, which honor North America’s finest custom publications. PEAKS, published by Active Interest Media, also earned an Honorable Mention for Best Use of Photography/Overall for all categories of publications.

“We’re excited to receive this recognition in a highly competitive field of first-class publications,” said Andy Bigford, editor and publisher of PEAKS, the Magazine of Vail Resorts. PEAKS, an annual, is mailed to the best 200,000 destination guest households ($200,000 median income) of Vail Resorts’ six award-winning mountains in late September, with an additional 100,000 copies distributed at the resorts throughout the winter. The magazine’s 2010 Reader Survey results indicated that 94 percent of readers take action based on reading the magazine. More than 75 percent of readers are influenced by the magazine’s product reviews and coverage, and they spend more than $600 million annually on gear, apparel and accessories.

The Magnum Opus competition drew more than 550 entries in dozens of categories. It is organized by ContentWise and judged by faculty from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Other honorees included magazines for companies and destinations such as Lexus, The Walt Disney Company, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, and the British Virgin Islands. Judges consider elements ranging from information and entertainment value to writing, photography and design in selecting the winners.

PEAKS (www.peaksmag.com) is part of the Outdoor Group of Active Interest Media (www.aimmedia.com), a leading publisher of consumer and trade magazines and web sites. AIM’s 30-plus magazine titles include Backpacker, Climbing, Yoga Journal, Vegetarian Times, American Cowboy, Log Home Living and Yachts International.
