Overland Journal - Adventure magazine offers access to valuable market

Overland Journal is a new magazine for expedition and adventure travel, with a strong conservation, exploration, and education focus - offering a new & exciting market for reaching outdoor product consumers.

Launched in April 2007, Overland Journal is the first North American publication dedicated to vehicle-dependent travel, with a strong focus on education, exploration, and conservation.

Overland Journal is setting new standards for adventure travel journalism. Its international editorial team brings readers the latest in expedition news, equipment testing, and fascinating stories from around the globe.

Unique in its class of vehicle-centered recreation magazines, Overland Journal is dedicated to conservation of the Earth's fragile resources. Each issue includes conservation news and stories about efforts around the world to preserve wild places and vanishing cultures.

Overland Journal has also created a whole new lexicon in North America's four-wheel-drive and adventure motorcycle communities. “Overlanding” is fast becoming the word to describe exploring by the road less-traveled, whether close to home—such as a group of friends enjoying Thanksgiving weekend in Death Valley—or halfway across the globe—a Colorado couple driving from London to Cape Town in their Land Rover.

The story of its founding is as unique as the journal. With the advent of the internet, some pundits predicted the end of print journalism. But three friends who met on an internet forum for expedition travel have turned that theory around. Using the rapidly growing internet communities formed by four-wheel-drive and adventure motorcycle enthusiasts—together, the largest of these total nearly 100,000 individuals—Scott Brady, Jonathan Hanson, and Chris Marzonie realized their dream of producing a quality publication that highlighted the type of travel about which they are passionate.

An entirely grassroots business, the captivating, full-color, archival-quality quarterly journal is driven by the passion of its founders and the support of its loyal subscribers. The response by both subscribers and advertisers has exceeded all projections—the unique mix of four-wheel-drive recreation, exploration, education, and conservation is a welcome change for consumers, and they are showing their support.

"Results from our ads in Overland Journal have been tremendous," says Expedition Exchange owner and charter advertiser John Lee. "We have advertised in other magazines with literally zero results. Overland Journal's readers actually buy from us - they mention our ad when placing their orders."

Charter subscriber and advertiser Mike Spies of AutoHome tents recently sent this note: "OK, I have to admit that the first edition left me thinking: Can they maintain the quality level? The lastest issue - which I just opened - provided a resounding "Yes!;."
