Outdoor Alliance Taps Backbone Media for Public Relations

Outdoor Alliance, a coalition of six national, member-based organizations devoted to conservation and stewardship of our nation’s public lands and waters, has retained Backbone Media to handle its public relations efforts.

Outdoor Alliance, a coalition of six national, member-based organizations devoted to conservation and stewardship of our nation's public lands and waters, has retained Backbone Media to handle its public relations efforts. Effective immediately, Outdoor Alliance will partner with Backbone to oversee media communications and promotion of its policy platforms.

Founded in 2006 by member groups including Access Fund, American Canoe Association, American Hiking Society, American Whitewater, International Mountain Bicycling Association and Winter Wildlands Alliance, Outdoor Alliance has built a unique identity within Washington, DC with respect to preserving access to America's outdoors through the promotion of sustainable human-powered outdoor recreation. Current policy priorities include safeguarding roadless areas, reforming antiquated mining laws and promoting the role federal lands provide in combating climate change.

“Backbone's experience and deep media relationships combined with their understanding of our policy platforms made them a natural fit for our organization,” said Mark Singleton, Executive Director for American Whitewater and Outdoor Alliance Chairman. “We're excited to partner with Backbone as Outdoor Alliance continues to connect communities with the issues and policies that effect our public lands.”

Outdoor Alliance, along with Outdoor Industry Association and more that 40 Colorado organizations and business, recently penned a letter to Colorado Governor Bill Ritter asking for increased protection of Colorado's public lands. Additionally, Outdoor Alliance is paying close attention to legislation on climate change recently passed in the U.S. House of Representatives as it heads to the Senate floor.
