September 21, 2011, Charlottesville, VA— Bad to the Bone Media (B2BM), Bad to the Bone Endurance Sports and Ortovox team up to keep viewers tied to the action during the inaugural Trail Runner Ultra Race of Champions (UROC) by offering two “Race within the Race” competitions.

Ortovox will provide $200 cash primes (pronounced preems) to the first male and female runner to reach the highest point on the Trail Runner Ultra Race of Champions course. Winners of the UROC "King and Queen of the Mountain" competition will also receive an Ortovox Momentum running pack.

This first competition will come early in the race and should get the elite athletes blood pumping as they will reach the Wintergreen Summit checkpoint (elevation of 4000 feet) at mile 5.5. The second “Race within the Race” occurs much later in the day, halfway through the ultra and is located at the entrance to the Dragon's Back checkpoint at mile 33.1 of the 100K course. Again, Ortovox will recognize the first male and female runner to reach this relative mid-point with a $200 cash bonus and lightweight, Momentum 15 backpack designed specifically for running. Winners of both “race within a race” competitions must complete the 100K course and be recognized as a UROC finisher.

Ortovox, long known in mountaineering and climbing circles as a leader in high-quality, four season mountain sports products for mountain adventurers also makes exceptional gear and clothing endurance athletes. COO of Ortovox, USA Dale Bard is quick to see the off-road connection between his company the title sponsor of UROC. He states: “Ortovox is excited to be partnering with Trail Runner magazine via UROC and branching out into this exciting sport. We feel this audience is a perfect fit for our running packs and performance base layers. By sponsoring the UROC's ‘King and Queen of the Mountain' and ‘Leader of the Pack,' competitions, we're making a real statement that our products have a place in the ultra running community. Ortovox is proud to recognize these male and female winners with a cash incentive and our lightest trail pack.”

Both the UROC "King and Queen of the Mountain" competition and the UROC Leader of the Pack, First to the Dragon's Back competition will be caught on video by Bad to the Bone Media and it's partner, Amoeba Films of Charlottesville, VA.
