Vail, Colorado – OpedixLabs launches its Opedix brand with Opedix R1 to help save knees from the relentless pounding that occurs during running.

Opedix R1 provides all the comfort, moisture-management, thermal regulation, and performance benefits expected in an athletic tight and is imbued with patent-pending technology that addresses underlying biomechanical factors—not just the symptoms—associated with discomfort, pain, and wear and tear on the knee joint.

Ingrained in Opedix R1's DNA are principals of traditional un-loader knee-bracing theory which reduces the knee-adductor moment to reduce medial knee-compartment load—a combination of muscle, ligament, and ground-reaction forces which significantly, and often detrimentally, increases in magnitude during physical activities like running. This mechanical process is referred to by scientists as “unloading” the knee and is an established strategy for reducing pain, increasing physical function of the knee joint, and mitigating the progression of lower-extremity pathologies including osteoarthritis.

Opedix technology unloads knees to help maintain healthy knees and assist those whose knees have already endured the rigors of countless miles of running on roads or trails.

Opedix R1 was developed in association with the Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation, one of the world's leading orthopedic research institutions, where gait-analysis demonstrated Opedix's ability to beneficially unload knees.

“Opedix is evidence-based and represents the nexus of science and apparel,” says David Gustafson, OpedixLabs CEO and co-founder. “Opedix knee-unloading technology can help you pursue an active lifestyle for years to come and meaningfully improve your quality of life,” says Gustafson.

“We've added our expertise in technical fabrics and base-layer apparel in developing Opedix,” says Randy Black, president and CEO of Longworth Industries, the exclusive manufacturer and distributor for Opedix. “Opedix R1 is special because it helps runners maintain healthy knees, avoid pain, and continue to do what they love. This is the ultimate benefit in sports,” says Black.

Opedix for running is available in men's and women's sizes and retails at $190. Opedix R1 will be available for purchase in mid-April on Opedix.com. Opedix will soon be available at sports and running stores nationwide.
