Once Again Tilley Endurables Proves Sun Safety a Must in the Outdoors

Tilley performs approximately 200 skin assessments and raises $1,000 for Leave No Trace during 2012 Summer Outdoor Retailer Show

(Toronto, Canada) - For the second year in a row Tilley Endurables, makers of the best, most practical, outdoor Hats in the world ™ provided free Sun Skin Assessments to attendees at this summer's Outdoor Retailer show. Visitors to the Tilley booth received both an evaluation by a local skin specialist and a UV photograph highlighting areas of potential sun damage. Coupled with tips on how to Practice Safe Sun® and samples from Joshua Tree Skin Care, some 200 show attendees participated in this summer's event.

As part of the effort, Tilley also donated $5 for each photo taken to Leave No Trace, an organization that teaches people how to enjoy the outdoor responsibly. In all, Tilley raised $1,000 for the LNT organization and considers the brand's ethos of responsibility in keeping with their own when it comes to being in the sun.

“We're pleased to see the sun protection message being well-received and heeded in the outdoor industry; among the people who make their living and live out their passions in the great outdoors,” states David Kappele, Director of North American Wholesale. “As one of our major brand pillars, sun protection remains at the heart of every product we manufacture in Canada, whether it's intended for warm or cold weather conditions. The importance of responsible safe sun practices cannot be overstated.”

Participants were reminded to apply and reapply sun block, as well as encouraged to wear a sun protective hat such as Tilley's, which have all been certified as “Excellent UV Protection” (UPF 50+) – blocking 98% of harmful UV rays.

A few of the new Spring/Summer 2013 Hat styles introduced at this month's show include:
• Organic Cotton/Hemp “Mash-Up” Hat (TMH9 & TMH5) – This new hat is made up of “recycled” yarn from hemp and organic cotton fabrics. What you have is an environmentally friendly fabric that is breathable, lightweight and certified UPF 50+. This fabric has a great texture as well, and if you look closely, you can see different thread colors that are woven into this fabric making each hat unique.

• Lightweight Organic Cotton Hemp Hat (TCH9) - This popular women's style now comes in a lighter weight natural fabric – 78% organic cotton and 22% hemp. This is a lighter blend of these two wonderful fabrics. Lightweight and breathable plus UPF 50+ and a water-repellent finish makes this hat not only fashionable, but filled with function. And yes, we did it in a fabulous red color.

• Lighter Weight Back Vented Hat (LTM10 & LTM11) – Engineered to be even lighter in weight, with a sun protection factor of UPF 50+. What's unique to these sty2les is the water-repellent rear 3D mesh insert for breathability and sun protection. This latest design done in our popular nylon Supplex™ will keep you protected, comfortable, and looking good for all your outdoor pursuits. Available in both medium and broad brimmed styles.
