Optimer Brands released a new eco-friendly version of Dri-release with FreshGuard® called Dri-release E.C.O. [Environmentally Correct Origins™] last year that uses recycled polyester and organic cotton. Now, Dri-release E.C.O. 2nd Nature - a 100% recycled Dri-release product will join the E.C.O. group to give customers more options.
A patented moisture transport system, Dri-release is constructed of an intimate blend of synthetic and natural fibers that accelerates the water release rate of wet fabric. Since being developed, Optimer has introduced over a dozen adaptations of its Dri-release technology in addition to its successful, original virgin polyester and cotton version, including Dri-release Wool (polyester plus merino or non-museled wool), Dri-release Bamboo (polyester plus bamboo) and others.
New Dri-release 2nd Nature combines post-consumer recycled polyester with post-industrial recycled cotton made from garment manufacturing clip waste - yielding a product made from 100% recycled materials.
In addition to the eco-friendly origins of new Dri-release 2nd Nature, all Dri-release with FreshGuard products are environmentally sound. Unlike competing moisture management products, neither Dri-release nor FreshGuard technology will wash out, diminish over time, or release harmful chemicals into the environment.
To produce the new E.C.O. product, Optimer has teamed up with Ferre-Hickory, LLC, a joint venture between Hilaturas Ferre (Spain) and North Carolina Hickory Throwing Company. Ferre-Hickory will produce the new Dri-release E.C.O. yarn that will incorporate their revolutionary 2nd Nature 100% recycled cotton. 2nd Nature significantly reduces the amount of waste in landfills, as well as the water, pesticides, dyes and electricity used to produce and process cotton. 2nd Nature is also certified by Oeko-Tex to be free of harmful chemicals.
Optimer is just now finishing its testing and approval process for what will become a fully recycled technical performance yarn. “For many of our customers, ‘green' is not only becoming a bigger issue, it is becoming the issue. At Optimer, environmental concerns also take priority. We're excited to be able to offer them not just one but two new ‘green' products, to expand their choices” says Karen Deniz, Dri-release director of marketing.
The original Dri-release E.C.O. can already be found in socks at Keen and shirts at both Outdoor Research and Adidas Outdoor.
