Northern Forest Canoe Trail Announces 4th Annual Online Auction

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) announces its fourth annual Online Auction, which will run from November 5 - December 5, 2008.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) announces its fourth annual Online Auction, which will run from November 5 - December 5, 2008. NFCT welcomes Paddling.net as the lead auction sponsor. With 200,000 unique visitors to their site each month, and weekly newsletters to 78,000 subscribers, Paddling.net brings significant visibility to this fundraising event.

"The NFCT is invaluable both to paddlers and as a tourist destination. Paddling.net is pleased to partner with NFCT for their auction. The auction serves as a great way to generate funding for the growth of the trail along with raising awareness to the 225,000+ monthly visitors to Paddling.net of this valuable paddling destination." comments Brian Van Drie, Paddling.net, Co-Founder.

NFCT's goal this year is to raise $30,000 through auction bidding. All proceeds will go directly to the Trail's mission programs, which include Trail Development and Waterway Stewardship, Sustainable Tourism Development, and Recreation and Heritage. In summer 2008, NFCT launched a new youth paddling program to connect rural youth with their backyard waterways, and auction support will support expansion of this important program in 2009.

The auction represents an opportunity for bidders to support NFCT's programs while choosing from an unparalleled gathering of items - canoes, kayaks, lodging, paddling gear, priceless experiences, books, gifts, and much more. A range of NFCT contributors donate these items as a way to support the organization's mission.

The online auction web tool is user-friendly and makes it easy for bidders to sort and view items by type, price, or other categories of their choosing. In addition, the web tool makes it easy to link directly to information about NFCT and all of the item donors and auction sponsors, so the auction also serves as an opportunity to learn about an active network of recreation and heritage-oriented companies and organizations. Special item additions over the course of the auction make it interesting and worthwhile to revisit the site regularly.

"We look forward to another exciting auction year in 2008, and we're thrilled to have the lead support of Paddling.net," says Kate Williams, NFCT Executive Director. "Last year, we tripled the number of items in our auction catalog, and doubled both the number of bidders and our auction revenues. In the process, we had a great time working with a diverse team of donors, sponsors and bidders. We look forward to another year of successful growth."

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail links the watersheds of northern New York, Vermont, Québec, New Hampshire, and Maine, and is a unique thread tying together the Northern Forest Region. The 740-mile trail traces historic Native American travel routes through the rivers of this region, and is a living reminder of our history, where waterways were both highways and routes of communication. Flowing with the stories of Native Americans, European settlers, and the development of mill towns and the timber industry, the Trail's rich heritage serves as a basis of widely accessible, environmentally friendly tourism in many of the small communities along the route.
