Those dedicated Mountainsmith followers who thought that the Ghost and Phantom were spirits of the past can rejoice in their rebirth with the all new Mountainlight Series. The line is similar in function and lightweight but carries a contemporary look and new suspension features. The Ghost 50, Phantom 40, Scream 25, Ether 20 and Daylight lumbar pack are all designed to accommodate current trends that are dominated by the need for packable, light and fast trail and travel use as well as shorter three to five day backpacking trips. The collection offers a more technical alternative to the best-selling All Terrain packs.

No matter the product, Mountainsmith designers are expert at making packs of all kinds to comfortably carry loads of any size. This line will not disappoint. The new Ghost 50 and Phantom 40 utilize new suspension features that include Iliac Crest Shelf (ICS) hip belts and Lumbar Control Point (LCP) padding that accentuate the body's natural ability to bear weight on the skeleton and provide a more comfortable ride on the shoulders. This new technology, coupled with the Breezeway, trampoline style, back panel will allow backpackers to cover more miles, more comfortably than ever before. The lightweight travel or summit hiking Scream 25 pack is secured with a webbed waist strap. The Ether 20 lumbar/shoulder pack and Daylight lumbar pack complete the collection.

The Ghost 50 and Phantom 40 share some key features. They are both unisex-sized and the only panel loader packs on the market with open air suspension frames at this size and price ($180 and $150). In reverse of a traditional waistbelt, the prominent curvature is at the top instead of the bottom and will optimize load transfer and help distribute the weight comfortably on the illiac crest hip bone. Perforated air-flow shoulder straps provide comfort and increased circulation. All airmesh padding on waistbelts and shoulder straps incorporate a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) anti-sweat finish. An internal hydration bladder sleeve is accessible through a centrally located exit port. Other features include side compression straps, tool and trekking pole mount loops, front stash pockets to fit Ten Essentials and side pockets for SIGG and Nalgene style water bottles.

The Scream 25 is designed with everything needed in a utilitarian travel pack or for a fun day of summit hiking. This stowaway top loading pack has a single compression strap toplid, see-through airmesh foam shoulder straps with DWR anti-sweat finish, and a removable waistbelt that provides comfort and security. The hydration bladder sleeve with exit port, deep side mesh pockets for water bottles and a reversible zippered front panel pocket that converts to “stash and dash” carry complete the package.

Designed as a convertible lumbar/shoulder bag, the new Ether 20 fits the needs of bike commuters and travelers of all kinds. A weather resistant zippered main compartment with roll top closure and interior padded sleeve combined with the removable raincover will protect contents including an iPad or up to a 15.4” laptop.
Organizational and accessory pockets as well as side bottle pockets will take care of paperwork and essentials. The tuckaway waistbelt and load equalizing side compression straps provide a comfortable fit.

The Daylight is designed as a stowaway piece for travel or backcountry pursuits. Its zippered interior pocket cleverly converts to a “stash and dash” storage pocket for on-the-go travel. The bright yellow pocket ensures that it is easy to find in a pack or suitcase. Side mesh pockets and a zippered front panel pocket provide additional storage. The removable shoulder strap offers an alternative way to carry the pack. 3M reflective highlights increase visibility.
