Mountain Gazette Updates Look
Launches Gear Section, Adds Staff

July 31, 2007 (Paonia, Colo.) - Mountain Gazette, the iconic journal for those who live the mountain-town lifestyle, has made significant changes in its format, staffing and distribution since its September 2006 acquisition by GSM Media.

Paul Gibb, Mountain Gazette's publisher comments, “We have a strong team, a focused distribution strategy, and a fervent readership within mountain towns throughout the Rocky Mountain West. For our advertisers we offer a unique means of reaching an educated, pro-active readership of thought-leaders within these communities.”

Now published monthly, Mountain Gazette runs full color pages throughout, with a slightly smaller, yet still large-format trim size. The paper quality has been increased significantly, thus improving the look of editorial and advertising creative.

A new gear column edited by Chris Kalous, augments the magazine's reader service sections and covers an eclectic assortment of products of interest to people in the Rockies ranging from solar panels to ice axes to apparel.

Recent staffing changes include the addition of Scott Leonard, formerly with Climbing Magazine, as associate publisher responsible for sales and marketing. Colin O'Brien is the new art director. Colin brings extensive print and web experience to the organization, and is supporting plans to expand the recently redesigned Mountain Gazette website .

Marc Sani, co-owner of Mountain Gazette said, “Those who have followed the magazine since its early days with contributors like Edward Abbey, will instantly recognize the format, style and irreverent tone of the Mountain Gazette. This title is subtly evolving while continuing to speak to the issues and interests of mountain communities across the Rocky Mountain West.”

Marc Sani is a co-founder and publisher for Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, as well as publisher for the Outdoor Retailer Show Daily.

Felix Magowan is CEO of Inside Communications, publisher of Velo News and Inside Triathalon magazines. His offices are in Boulder, CO.
