Midwest Mountaineering will present the 25th annual Spring Outdoor Adventure Expo on April 24-26, 2009. The Expo boasts over 115 free presentations and 70 exhibitors as well as three nights of the Radical Reels Film Festival.
The Expo will host many notable speakers. Gregg Treneish and Deia Schlosberg are the 2008 National Geographic Adventurers of the Year. They spent two years backpacking the Andes Mountains from the Equator to Tierra del Fuego. Kevin Callan, Lena Conlan and Cliff Jacobson are perennially popular paddling speakers. Rod Johnson, the owner and founder of Midwest Mountaineering, and his wife Sharon will speak on their recent trip to New Zealand, as well as a previous trips to France and Utah.
The earliest canoe and kayak demo in the Upper Midwest occurs on the Thursday prior to Expo. Saturday morning brings the Canoe and Kayak Auction during which hundreds of boats are auctioned off to the assembled crowd by a professional auctioneer.
Many local organizations and clubs use the Expo as a way to promote themselves and attract new members. Some of the groups represented are: The Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy, NOLS, Outward Bound and many U.S. and Canadian parks and outfitters. Midwest Mountaineering warmly supports the missions of these organizations.
Free admission to all Expo events, except Radical Reels, reflects Midwest Mountaineering’s mission statement, ‘Sharing Passion for the Outdoors.’ The mission statement is further reinforced by the diversity of speakers and exhibitors at the Expo.
