Merrell’s Fusion Line Offers an Innovative Transformable Jacket for Spring 2009

For spring 2009, Merrell Apparel attacked these two challenges head on with its signature concept piece, the Morph jacket for men and women. Designed with versatility in mind, the jacket features multiple zip-off and reversible options that can be worn in a multitude of stylish ways without losing functionality for active, outdoor pursuits that Merrell Apparel is known for. The Morph jacket will be featured at Merrell's booth #32300 at this year's Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City, Utah, August 8–11, 2008.

Each season Merrell Apparel creates a signature concept piece that is made available to consumers for purchase, to showcase its position as a leader in the outdoor market as well as provide its consumers with an innovative, yet functional, addition to their closets. The designs encourage Merrell customers to think creatively about outdoor apparel choices while at the same time inspiring the outdoor industry to think outside the box with their own designs. Past concept pieces included fall 2008's Gatherer jacket, a do-it-yourself lightweight shell that allowed the wearer to fill the see-through jacket with their own creative content.

This year's concept piece, the Morph jacket is part of Merrell's Fusion collection. The Fusion collection represents the dynamic interaction of life, work and play. Each piece in the Fusion collection evokes stylish and smart design built on a foundation of comfort, performance and fit. Beyond its fashionable exterior, the Morph is a performance level jacket created separately for both men and women. Designed with versatility in mind, the Morph jacket is constructed from a reversible nylon and microfiber polyester jersey fabric with zip-out options, reversible colorways and multiple configurations.

“In order to stay on the forefront of innovative outdoor apparel design, we need to listen to our customers and provide them with versatile products they could wear day and night, from the trail to a dinner party,” says Merrell Apparel Creative Director Tobin Teichgraeber. “The Morph jacket is distinctive because it allows our consumers to create a style that's unique to themselves and their daily activities, all in a single jacket.”

The men's Morph jacket has a detachable, reversible hood and zip-off sleeves that can transformed into eighteen different style or color combinations, worn as a hoodie, a shell or even a vest. The women's Morph jacket transforms into eight different wearable options that include a bolero, shell jacket and vest. The men's and women's Morph jackets are water resistant and are available in eye-catching color combinations: granite/bluebell for women and granite/black for men.

The Morph jacket retails for $129 for both women's and men's. The complete line of Merrell Apparel, as well as the newly expanded collection of packs and bags, is sold through retail partners throughout the U.S. as well as through its subsidiaries and distributors worldwide and also at www.merrell.com. Products retail for $29 for graphic tees to $229 for the collection's premier jackets.
