Medicines Global Outdoor Youth Ambassadors (MGOYA) Announces Two New Unique Tours For LA Youth
Torrance-South Bay for Climbing and a custom tour of the Annenberg Space for Photography with photo essay contest
Los Angeles, Cali. April 17th, 2011. This week Medicines Global continues their innovative programs with urban youth furthering their collaboration with the Los Angeles Police Department. On Wednesday, April 18th Medicines Global will take 15 Medicines Global Outdoor Youth Ambassadors (MGOYA) from San Pedro High School to the Torrance-South Bay YMCA to introduce them to the sport of climbing.
The Torrance Bay climbing excursion is the second outing this season offering powerful exposure to urban youth. These trips create inclusion for kids that have few ways of participating in seeing more of their natural environment right near them and offering new perspective and choices. The first trip this year was the Joshua Trip excursion on February 20th, 2012 with a vimeo summary at end of release. Without the support and participation of the Los Angeles Police Department these influential programs would not be possible. Below officer Deistain explains their importance as well as the collaborative support from the Torrance Bay YMCA:
Getting out students out of the city and into nature is of the utmost importance. I cannot imagine a more exciting means of doing this then the programs Medicines Global has designed.~ Cynthia Deinstein, LA.P.D. Officer & Magnet Officer, San Pedro High School
“...The Torrance-South Bay YMCA is one of the largest, most diverse non-profit community service organizations in the region. The Y partners closely with community members to promote the safety, health, and happiness of people of all ages, races, faiths, abilities, and incomes. The Y provides a multitude of community enrichment opportunities involving more than 15,000 households in the South Bay. We will continue to support MGOYA joint LAPD activities.”
~ Lisa Van Ingen Pope, Senior Director of Development, Torrance Bay YMCA
Following the climb wall belay lesson the students will go to The Annenberg Space for Photography where they will have a lunch provided by Erewhon, a leading Los Angeles Natural Food Market.
“ I am pleased to able to offer sponsorship to Medicines Global from Erewhon. I am excited to personally participate on April 18th and in other planned Medicines Global programs. Medicines Global is onto something innovative and needed for inner city students. I would love to see Medicines Global take off through out America and I would be thrilled to be apart of the movement.”~ Victor Grenner, Store Director, Erewhon
The MGOYA students will be given a tour of The Annenberg Space for Photography, a cultural destination dedicated to exhibiting both digital and print photography. The venue is the first solely photographic cultural destination in the Los Angeles area.
