Mammut Launches New Schoeller Coldblack Styles at OR

This summer, in the Salt Palace Convention Center’s respite from Salt Lake City’s scorching temperatures, Mammut is set to launch new outerwear and apparel for staying cool under the hot sun.

Mammut, the Swiss quality providers of alpine gear and apparel, has a history of partnering with Schoeller® Textiles and technologies spanning over 25 years. This summer, in the Salt Palace Convention Center's respite from Salt Lake City's scorching temperatures, Mammut is set to launch new outerwear and apparel for staying cool under the hot sun. Featuring Schoeller® Coldblack®, a new finishing technology from Schoeller and Clariant International Ltd., selected Mammut outerwear and apparel reduces heat build up and keeps the wearer cool while offering protection from the sun's harmful rays.

Traditionally, dark colored clothing is preferred by outdoors enthusiasts for its resistance to showing the wear and tear of hard use and dirt, but comes with the cost of over-heating. Baking on a sun-soaked rock face or a high alpine trail under the summer sun can be both dehydrating and exhausting, as dark clothing absorbs the sun's visible and invisible rays. Enter Coldblack®, making black and dark colors feel lighter than wearing white, by reflecting up to 80% of the sun's rays (both UV-A and UV-B). Coldblack® finished apparel consistently tests 5°C on the interior and 12°C on the exterior cooler in sweating torso tests than the same untreated textiles.

Mammut's new Verglas jacket is a lightweight, full-stretch soft shell featuring Coldblack, and intended for all-around outdoor use. Available in black, fir, rust, and frost, all color ways will feel cooler to the wearer than a white garment, while offering 30 UPF sun protection. The Verglas also features breathable and quick-drying Schoeller® DrySkin soft shell fabric and is finished with Nanosphere® to shed dirt, stains, and moisture. Several of Mammut's alpine pants will also feature Coldblack in spring ‘09, including the men's Mountain Climbing Pant and the ever-popular Champ and Courmayeur pants, as well as the women's mountaineering and Courmayeur styles.

Mammut's award-winning innovations and complete collections of apparel, footwear, climbing gear, and lighting can be seen at booth #3005 at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer trade show, being held
August 8th-August 11th in Salt Lake City, Utah. For more information about Mammut, contact Ian Connor at 1.800.451.5127, ext.113. For media inquiries, please reach Alycia Cavadi at Momentum Media PR, 617.875.5553 or
