Kids just want to have fun and over 2,000 did so last year by downloading coloring pages from the LOWA and American Hiker Magazine websites and then entering a coloring contest, earning the chance to win a pair of LOWA boots. LOWA is once again stepping up to the plate to sponsor the contest that will be announced in each of the four annual issues of American Hiker Magazine. The coloring pages will feature a seasonal theme, the first one a kick-off to National Trail Days to be held the first Saturday in June. The partnership is designed to encourage awareness of LOWA kids boots, the American Hiking Society and their National Trail Days promotion.

Young artists up to age 12 can send their drawings to the American Hiking Society where four winners will be picked every quarter. They will each be sent a pair of LOWA boots and other prizes and have their artwork featured on LOWA’s Facebook page and website. “Hikers Rule” LOWA rulers reminding kids of American Hiking Society’s Ten Essentials of Hiking will be distributed at consumer shows and events and put in each box of kids boots shipped to LOWA retailers across the country.

“The American Hiking Society is one of the industry's top non-profits that support hiking in America and they do a great job with limited resources,” commented Peter Sachs, general manager of LOWA in the U.S. “Our sponsorship of the coloring contest is a fun way to reach our young customers and their parents and do our part in supporting this outstanding organization.”

LOWA offers a line of boots for active kids that parallels the look and quality of their adult counterparts. The mid and lo-cut hikers offer comfortable support from trails to schoolyards to skate parks. Each model utilizes high quality leathers combined with high-tech components such as GORE-TEX® waterproof and breathable lining, shock absorbing PU midsoles and durable rubber outsoles.

For the last three decades, the American Hiking Society has been protecting the nation’s trails and encouraging people to enjoy nature through the hiking experience. They work towards ensuring that hiking trails are preserved for generations to come. National Trails Day® is a celebration of trails that evolved from a 1987 report of President Ronald Reagan. The report recommended that all Americans be able to go out their front doors and within fifteen minutes, be on trails that wind through their cities or towns and bring them back without retracing steps. In 1993, the recommendation became the impetus for the American Hiking Society’s launch of National Trails Day®.
LOWA Boots LLC, with headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, is a partnership with LOWA Sportschuhe Gmbh founded in 1923 and based in Jetzendorf, Germany. The U.S. company, launched in 1996, sells, markets, and distributes a complete line of four season outdoor footwear for walking, hiking, backpacking, and mountaineering as well as everyday use. In addition, LOWA offers collections of specialized footwear for field sports and professional task force use.
