Local Outdoor Retailer Wins National Catalog Award

Black Creek Outfitters’ Spring 2006 Outdoor Guide catalog earned a Gold Award from among over 200 entrants at last month’s Annual Conference for Catalog & Multi-Channel Merchants (ACCM) in Boston.

Black Creek Outfitters' Spring 2006 Outdoor Guide catalog earned a Gold Award from among over 200 entrants at last month's Annual Conference for Catalog & Multi-Channel Merchants (ACCM) in Boston.

The Multi-Channel Merchant awards are judged in 3 rounds by a panel of leaders in multi-channel retailing. The standards are so rigorous, that Gold Awards were earned in only 12 of the 17 categories.

Black Creek received the prestigious Gold Award in the Syndicated Catalog category. The Silver Award went to BMW. Winners in other categories included Patagonia, LL Bean and Orvis.

Black Creek's Outdoor Guide consistently wins national honors due to its unique design and content. Unlike traditional catalogs, the Outdoor Guide goes beyond products and prices by delivering detailed brand and product information, informative and useful tips, valuable coupons, and information on the events and services Black Creek offers.

“We wanted something that gets our customer's attention, makes us look great and is affordable”, says owner Joe Butler, Jr. “We mail the Outdoor Guide because it reminds customers of who we are, what we sell and what we're all about. We know it works because it produces measurable results for at least 3 months.”

Black Creek contracts with Catalyst Communication to produce the Outdoor Guide as part of a co-op program among independent outdoor retailers and their vendors. “Catalyst makes it very easy. They coordinate the support of our vendors, and do everything from design to mailing. We simply provide them with the information to customize the Guide so it reflects us. It saves us time and money and we look like heroes.”

Black Creek (www.blackcreekoutfitters.com) is a family-owned, 24 year-old retailer with a single 14,000 sq. foot location in Jacksonville Florida. They sell the major brands of hiking, camping, paddling, climbing, skiing, and snowboarding equipment and are uniquely situated on a 22 acre lake for testing paddle craft.
