LEKI Creates "Pick-a-Pole" Answer Wheel for Use at Retail

“Pick-a-Pole” Answer Wheel Helps Customers Select Best Pole

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2008) – This is the information age, and people demand instant gratification. This includes hikers who visit a store carrying LEKI trekking poles. Now a new four-color grommeted “Pick-a-Pole” answer wheel has been developed to serve as a handheld silent salesman that explains the differences in LEKI poles at the turn of a dial.

Customers can find their perfect LEKI pole by taking the “Pick-a-Pole” for a spin. It divides LEKI poles across five main color-coded product categories. The movable easy-to-use cardboard wheel highlights a model name and photo, specifies length, weight, and model number, and lists key features of each pole in cutout windows. Hiking enthusiasts just match their needs to the proper pole.

The “Pick-a-Pole” selection wheel was designed in close collaboration between LEKI USA, Buffalo, N.Y., and American Slide Chart, Wheaton, Ill., which thought so highly of the answer wheel they wrote their own case study about it. Once the wheel was completed, LEKI distributed it to their independent sales representatives, and also shipped a supply to retailers with instructions on where and how to display it.

To stimulate additional use at the point-of-sale, LEKI ran a retail photo contest which offered as top prize a pair of the company's Super Makalu COR-TEC Antishock Trekking poles. Winner was Amber Balzer, sales associate of Valhalla Pure Outfitters in Abbotsford, B.C., part of a 16-store specialty sporting goods retailer located across British Columbia and Alberta.

“This is the most effective technique we've found to pack multiple pages of information into a concise, portable tool,” says Lindy Spiezer, LEKI USA marketing manager. “The interactive format grabs attention and encourages use. It also doubles as a training aid for sales personnel.”
