Kokatat unveils ultimate performance PFD at Outdoor Retailer

Kokatat, the leading US manufacturer of technical apparel and accessories for water sports, introduces the Maximus series of performance life vests that are comfortable and capable in all paddling disciplines.

Kokatat, the leading US manufacturer of technical apparel and accessories for water sports, introduces the Maximus series of performance life vests that are comfortable and capable in all paddling disciplines.

“The Maximus started as a challenge from EJ and Dane Jackson, who wanted one PFD that they could use for creeking, river running and playboating,” said Jeff Turner, Kokatat sales and marketing manager.

In order to make the vest as versatile as possible Kokatat made the PFD with a low profile, but with a high floatation quotient. They accomplished this with the new Dynamic Suspension System that features wide, contoured shoulder straps that allow an independently suspended front flotation panel to move with the paddler.

For additional versatility and to dial in the most comfortable and best fit, all the webbing adjustments were moved to the front of the PFD for quick and easy access.

“While the initial intent was to develop a whitewater PFD, we also came away with a fantastic performance touring vest, especially in the rescue version,” added Turner.

The Maximus will be offered in a standard model and a Type 5 rescue version, the Maximus Prime. Both models are made with Gaia® PVC-free foam and feature a front lash tab with scabbard cover and knife handle lash, and a large, gusseted front pocket. The Maximus Prime rescue PFD has the additional features of a quick release chest harness and O-ring, a tether/ tow system, an electronics pocket, and a strobe anchor on the back.

The Maximus will be offered in Coal and Mango. It will also be offered in a special colorway as part of the new Kokatat Jackson Collection. The Maximus Prime will be available in Red. Both vests will be available nationwide in January 2013 through Kokatat’s retail partners.
