BOULDER, COLO. (For Immediate Release) – Kelty, backpack innovator and manufacturer since 1952, has pulled several designs from their archives to create an authentic line of Vintage packs and bags that highlight Kelty’s extensive heritage of outdoor equipment innovation.

Inspired by enduring pack designs from the 60s and 70s, the new Vintage line blends classic materials and construction with modern features for today’s fashion-forward urban commuter. Leather accents, metal hardware, exposed zippers, and classic 500D Cordura combine with security pockets, cell phone sleeves, and laptop-friendly sizing to give these packs a retro look and modern functionality.

“There is a world-wide vintage trend going on and Kelty is in a unique position to be a leader of this trend,” said Sue Edmiston, marketing director with Kelty. “Kelty has been making packs for 58 years, designing and manufacturing packs and bags with a similar look and feel to the new Vintage line. Now considered retro, these packs would have been seen as cutting edge when Kelty first introduced them in the 60s and 70s.”

With six styles in all, the Vintage line includes five backpacks and one duffel bag. The category standouts are highlighted below.

With two removable side pockets and vintage rucksack construction, the top-loading Mockingbird is a true replica inspired by previous Kelty designs. With leather lash tabs, exposed metal zippers, and classic styling, the Mockingbird will soon become an urban favorite. 1725 cubic inches of storage space with a top pocket and organizer panel accommodates enough gear for the daily commute while keeping it easy to find. $124.95

Straight out of the 1960s, Kelty’s Cycle Hiker features padded adjustable shoulder straps, an internal organizer panel, and easy access to both the main and external pockets. The Cycle Hiker’s 1100 cubic inches of storage space is perfect for taking a laptop, extra clothes and lunch to work, school, or the gym. $59.95

Any grammar school student from the 70s will remember hauling books and lunch around in a pack similar to the Kelty Daypack. A large main compartment accommodates books, files, laptops, and clothes while a smaller external pocket handles smaller items. An internal organizer keeps phones, pens, and other essentials easy to find. Total storage space is 1100 cubic inches. $49.95

Inspired by pack designs from the 60’s, Kelty’s top loading Wren combines a roomy main compartment with dual external organizer pockets for vintage good looks and convenience on your daily commute. 1350 cubic inches of storage space handles a laptop, extra clothes and any other workday necessities. $59.95

These packs will be available for a closer look during the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City from August 3-6, 2010 in the Kelty booth #28017.
