KEEN Re-Imagines Trade Show Booth Design Using Reclaimed, Recycled and Repurposed Materials

Remember building a tree house as a kid or imagining the possibilities of your bigger than life fort? KEEN took inspiration from the kid inside of all of us to build their brand new booth.

Portland, OR – July 19, 2010 – Remember building a tree house as a kid or imagining the possibilities of your bigger than life fort? KEEN took inspiration from the kid inside of all of us to build their brand new booth. The new KEEN trade show booth uses reclaimed, recycled and repurposed materials, reflecting the company’s commitment to uniting innovative design and sustainability. The door is open to industry friends and retail partners at Summer Outdoor Retailer – no secret password required.

Step inside; the KEEN factor is stamped on every inch of the booth. The imaginative design plays with the unexpected to create tension and draw interest. Walls are built out of used pallets and the elevated stage is made of reclaimed wood from stadium bleachers. The doors throughout the booth were harvested from abandoned buildings while tables are crafted from discarded car hoods and old skateboard decks. Vintage windows display fresh graphics while abandoned newspaper dispensers hold workbooks printed on recycled paper. To house new product, old road signs are reinvented as display shelves. Finally, to reduce materials, save on transportation costs and lessen the environmental impact, no special flooring is used in the booth.

“At KEEN, our mission is to bring the opposing elements of design and life together to create hybrid products that encourage everyone to pursue a HybridLife,” said KEEN Vice President of Marketing Phyllis Grove. “We used that same sensibility in creating this cool new booth from existing materials. From old skateboard decks to abandoned newspaper dispensers, the vibe is quintessential KEEN.”

Need a break from the show? Come play with KEEN. The new booth provides work/life balance by combining a work area and a community space. KEEN brings the outdoors indoors with disc golf baskets, balance boards and a recycling center. In addition, a refurbished, vintage direct vulcanization machine will be making a special appearance in the booth, producing shoes from the new Santiago collection on the spot and demonstrating the eco-friendly nature of the production process. Finally, the ever-popular HybridLife Challenge/Wheel is back offering spinners the chance to fulfill the HybridLife mission of “Create, Play, Care”.
